98 Camaro Z

Y'all probably get this question alot. Whats the best way to hook this guage up? I've tried tapping into the factory wire on both sides(driver and passenger) but it keeps throwing codes and makes the car run rough. I've tried soldering it and tapping into it with one of those 3 way conectors. A friend of mine said he plugged into a pin on the computer, like number 68 or something but how safe is that? Can yall explain it detail how to do it exactly?

Buy the pigtail that you can buy from one of the sponsors of this site. It makes it a heck of a lot easier. You just plug that inbetween the O2 sensor and pcm and connect the purple to purple and you're set. It costs about $20 but I think it is worth not having the headache.

the above solution sounds like a good idea if your car keeps setting codes... w/my car I just cut the purple wires on the PCM and spliced off them (actually didn't cut, used one of those electrical connectors that lets you add a line to an existing wire)

Are you sure you're hitting the right wires? 98 PCMs are different pin outs than 99+ PCMs

Who can I get that pigtail from? I'm suppose to be hitting the right wires. Purple with a white tracer. I followed it from the sensor. The pigtail sounds like a good idea.

i have seen that pigtail but im not sure who sold it...when i hooked up my a/f on my s-10 i dont think that was available and it was a complete pita...fwiw a/f guages using narrowbands suck.

I had alot of problems initally with the C2 air/fuel gauge. I even sent it back to Autometer for evaluation. I ended up using a 12 gauge ground wire, to the back of the cylinder head.

Problem was, the gauge when the lights were turned on would make my O2's drop into super lean mode. Also on startup the O2's would hold at like 430mv's for a little while before the wire change.

I used those and had nothing but problems. They worked fine when it was dry out but when it rained the car ran like garbage. Miss-firing and chugging all over the place. Tore my hair out troubleshooting it and remembered I had recently used these for the A/F gauges. Pulled the connector and a good amount(bottle cap full) of water fell out of the connection. The seal looked fine on the connection so I dried it out and re-connected. Car still wasn't right so I tossed them in the garbage and hooked the wires to the correct pins on the pcm. Used in-line splice connectors on the wires coming out of the pcm. Spliced about 10" from the pcm. No more problems.

The pins for the 98 pcm are:

Circuit Number C2 (Blue)

46 PPL HO2S Signal High Bank 2 Sensor 1

or

47 PPL/WHT HO2S Signal High Bank 1 Sensor 1

I think I'm going to have to do that, I hooked up that pigtail connector and now its throwing a "No activity Seen" code. I'm about to throw the connector and guage in the trash.
