Default 4L60E to TH400 swap

I'm switching from a 4L60E to a TH400. The tuning and PCM section doesn't seem to get many answers to the questions - I've done searches.
Some say you have to reflash the PCM to an M6, some say you don't. Some talk about resistors, but don't give details. How does the PCM know the tranny is in drive. I'm finding you pretty much have to do the VSS to get it to run right. Can someone give me all of the details on which way to go and everything I need to do to the PCM/tranny/harness? Detailed help would be appreciated.

When I first put mine in I didn't change a thing tuning wise and everything worked fine. It will throw some codes of course but it didn't hurt performance.

Did you switch from an A4 or M6?

I would tune it out to think it has a six speed.
Old swaps used resistors that had the same value as shift solinoids, force motor, etc, the VCM looks for the transmissions electrical components and sets the ses light if they detect the wrong resistance, or if they are missing.

Now with the programmable VCM you can flash it to manual trans specs, the manual has no electronics so it doesn't look for any.
The VCM wouldn't look for the trans to be in drive if it was flashed to an M6. It woulnd need to either.
It normally uses a pressure activated switch on the valve body of the automatic.

With HPTuners you can delete all the reference codes for the 4L60E. I swapped my 4L60E to a B&M TH400 on our 1998 Z28 and I have no problems at all. There is no need for resitors or to flash in a manual program. If you have further questions, just ask me and I can help.

Do you happen to know if you can delete those same things with LS1Edit? Did you just drive it and delete the ones that came up till there was no more SES light? Thanks for the help!

Well, I am sure you can with LS1Edit. Delete all the references to any trans code. You don't want to just drive around and delete codes, you might get a problem from soemthing else and you will need to fix that, not jsut delete it. Let me search through my archives and I will post up a list later of the items I deleted.

LOL, I didn't mean drive around and delete anything that comes up - only the tranny codes that come up! If you can let me know which ones, that would be great!

Nope you cant!

There are 2 codes that still remain. I tried and gave up. Went to a 6 speed file and all is fixed.
