Opinions on Hot Cam...
If you had a chance to buy a used Hot Cam for under $300 would you purchase it?
Because I've heard mix opinions on the LS1 Hot Cam and I'm not sure if I should go ahead and purchase it or wait for a better one.

i like my hotcam...prepare to put on your suit for the hotcam bashers that are going to go into their i hate hotcam spill..i realize the hotcam does not make the power of dang near every other aftermarket cam availabe..bottom line is i got mine cheap..i have no worries about changing my valvesprings all the time and it has a nasty lope which i dig.. yes i know i know i can get a cam that idles dang near stock and makes more power than a hotcam..i dont care i put mine in and dont plan on taking it out anytime soon..yes you will need to have your car tuned... sorry if this seems so "angry" its just everyone goes on for 3 pages about how they hate the hotcam and it sucks..sure its old technology blah blah ..its all about what YOU want not what everyone else wants for you..

I have the hotcam in my car and am going to side with red bandit on it, I like it, there will always be a cam that makes more power, but i don;t think twice about taking it in a long trip,or breaking a spring

You can get a used cam that will greatly outperform that cam for <$300. Also, LS1SPEED is having a group purchase right now, $339.99 shipped Click here . People with Hotcams swear by them, people who want more power like other, more proven cams (TR, MTI, LG, FMS, etc)

I'm suprised FMS hasn't been brought up since drivability is an issue. They're famous for great drivability with crazy power.

If you want 375 hp, GM reliability and a nice sound, the hotcam is a good choice.
Yes, there are cams that make more power but the hot cam has its place. It is an old grind, but so is the B1, T1 and C1...no body beats those cams up.
If the above goals are what you want, get your hot cam and have fun.

Guess you were not around when GM shipped out the batch of non heat-treated Hot Cams, which destroyed a few motors.

Had mine for a long time, love it, fun as hell, sounds great, good torque for stret fun, will take a 5000 mile trip tomorrow and not worry about anything, then I'll autocross it the next day, never change my springs again, the kit was cheap, LS6 springs are reliable, stock everything else (pushrods, timing chaing, retainers, etc...) so it is inexpensive, blah blah blah blah blah...
Will I buy a bigger cam ever, probably. But who cares, when my car is no longer a dailer driver, maybe I'll install a T-rex, but this cam has served its purpose, and continues to.

PS $300 used is too much money.... I bought the entire kit new for $399

I love my hotcam, but you can do better than that. For that much money you should buy the entire kit. Summit has it for a little (just a little) over $400. And that is with new springs and shims (yes...I found out the hard way those are shims...but you don't need to use them).
