SLP 1.85 track results
I installed a set of SLP 1.85 rocker arms a few weeks ago and had a chance to test them out at the track this past weekend.
Just after the install, I immediately felt a decrease in off-idle power and the valvetrain got noisier. I’m running the rockers with a CompCam 206/212 .515/.522 112 cam. That cam noticeably increased my off-idle power. So with the 1.85s, the off-idle felt like stock. I never had a chance to open it up until I went to the track.
So with no big expectations, I made some runs at the track. Weather was not as good as the last outing. Very humid and temps around 72 deg. Track was unprepped.
With stock cam my best was 12.89@107.5 with a 1.94 sixty.
With 206 cam w/out the rockers 12.74@108.4 with a 1.89 sixty.
With 206 cam w/rockers 12.66@110.6 with a 2.09 sixty.
I’m happy with the 2 mph gain. I really like the fact that I can easily swap out the 1.85s and regain a strong lowend for just street driving at some point in time without having to re-adjust my cam timing.

Even with the lousy 60 ft times (mid 1.9s to hi 2.0s) my 1/8 #s were still 8.2-8.3@89-90. I even hit a 91.6 mph!! once. The rockers really changed the character of the engine. Strong mid range. I am shocked to see such a drastic change. I wonder if it has something to do with running stock exhaust manifolds & cats??

Not sure of my ET loss or gain, but I put in the SLP 1.85 rocker pkg, springs, chrome molly push rods etc... & dynoed a measley +5 RWHP gain...
Thoroughly disgusted... their ads say 15-18 HP gain... even if that was at flywheel, take off 20% for my car being an A4, that would, or SHOULD be at least a 14 RWHP gain.
A 5 RWHP gain is less than HALF! Worst mod & money & time waster....

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. Sometimes certain mods don't respond well if there is a restriction or issue somewhere else, and vice-versa, a mod will respond well when it is correcting a restriction/issue. Maybe that is whats happening in both of our experiences... for me, my cam profile is too mild..?

Dude..
I aint no magazine racer, or whatever you're inferring..
You obviously don't know who I am....
Try 5th place overall at Englishtown in the Corvette Challenge Series 2004.
Try 10th place in 2003.
How about an event win in 2002. Thats about as long as I've been racing.
How about the SLP King of the Track in 2003.
Wins in US Muscle Drag, Real Street, some Gamblers races, & the Vette Magazine Show n Go, King of the Hill...
So, I'd say I'm pretty much a "real" racer.....
My mods are full bolt ons.. no restrictions..
Vararam intake, LG headers, Vigilante 3200, but used to have the Yank SS3600..
I think on a maxed out car like mine, rockers aren't gonna do too much.
I bought in to their hype... Disappointed, big time...!

I'm not sure what TrendSetter meant by that post. He could have meant that he agrees with you and that the rocker arms was a ricer-type mod (big$$ for little gain).

If meant to be disrespectful, please keep that kind of comments out of this thread. If not, then its cool, but it is apparent that many don't understand your point.
Information about higher ratio rockers on this board is ****-poor. My intent was to bring some information to the table. Whether it is good or bad or whatever, I want to tell it like it is. I also plan to try different combinations of the 1.85 with stock 1.7 ratios on different valves and report the results from that test. I hope somebody out there finds this stuff informative or at least interesting.
Is there anybody out there that finds this stuff at least interesting?

Guys, too many people bank on peak H.P. gain, and loose sight of midrange increases. I bet if you dyno your car after this mod, you will see a nice midrange gain in H.P. and more so in torque. Increasing lift, with out increasing duration artificially increases compression, which gives you more..... torque. The E.W.P. mod has been getting undue negative responses because the peak was like 4 hp. If you check midrange to high rpm you will see atleast a 10 hp improvement. This is hp and torque you will feel as you go down the track. I was using those "silly" 1.7 rockers in my LT1 before anyone ever heard of an "LS who?". If you nickel and dime your way to hp, next thing you know, you're now up 15 or 20 hp with simple mods. I still laugh at all the double valve spring guys, because it just isn't necessary. The factory '02-Up LS6 spring is all you need if you're not going over .600" lift and 6,700 rpm.

Thanks for posting replies! I now feel the effort is worth something to somebody else too. For awhile there, I was seriously wondering ....
Yes, I feel a good midrange improvement. I was expecting it to only "come on" above 4200 rpm. It kinda shifted the previously strong lowend into the midrange.
