Default ways to gain P-V clearance?

Have 382 stroker, MTI built motor. Stage 2R LS1 heads apparently milled .030 when they were built. They have 2.05 and 1.6 valves, 7 degree titanium retainers, locks, manley dual springs, etc. Have X1 cam (230/227 .591/.571 114 lobe, although cam card said it was .609 lift I believe). Car runs fine, no problems. I ordered a larger cam, with a traditional split instead of reverse split since I am running a 200 shot of nitrous.

The cam I am wanting to install is a Speed Inc stroker grind, 242/250 .611/.619 114 lobe.

I was going to upgrade the heads to stage III heads, which would be more porting and bigger valves (2.08 instead of 2.05), but I have gotten mixed signals from people who work at MTI, one said go for it, one said it won't help with stock bore. One person said P-V clearance would be an issue possibly.

What are the ways to help P-V clearance, such as different head gaskets? Any input???

I would assume with a 382 Stroker you would have at least a 2 CC valve relief, quite possibly more. I would address that issue with MTI. IMHO I do not think you'll have many Piston To Valve Clearance problems.

The only way is to notch the pistons which should already be done or get a thicker head gasket. I would not spend the money to go from a 2.055 to a 2.08 on a stock bore. Not going to make a big difference. Just to let you know I know someone with almost that same cam and idle sucks. It did pick up some time in the quarter though over the previous cam. You need to clay the pistons either way to confirm the clearance is sufficent.

I have it on a 114 lobe which should help, but idle quality is not a huge concern, just a weekend fun/street race car.

I am thinking I may have to clay it to actually see what kind of clearance I have...This sucks...

thanks for the input!~

i'd keep the 2r heads amd maybe go with a bigger gasket, though that doesn't help your quench at all. keep the heads and fly-cut your pistons.

depending on your applications you maybe able to advance or retard the dot to dot cam, this would give you more room since you would be changing the timing!

Checked with Cometic, they make a .074 thick gasket for 3.91 bore LS1...which is .023 thicker than the stock gm gaskets I currently have (.051). I was told by everyone to clay it, which is a pain in the ***. I may just get a slightly smaller cam, but then I still don't know my P-V clearance. May just install cam, turn it by hand, and then pull heads and put on thicker gaskets. Or just leave the ******* thing alone!!!!! frustrated.

Pull any intake valvespring off, with the piston at top dead center on that bore. measure the distance from where it hits the piston, to where it sits against the seat. Tell me that, and I can tell you what you have for PTV
