Default heres a good ?, t/a or z28 for cheap speed?

new to the gm game, looking at an 02 ws6 6 speed. after talking to a few guys i come to understand the t/a is just an overpriced camaro. what do you guys think? apparently they all come with the same motor/tranny, is there any advantage to either car as far as performance? the t/a's i'm looking at are in the $19-20,000 region and are hard to find. why can i get a camaro with the same motor/trans for way less? can you build up a t/a and camaro equally for the same amount of money? is it just because the t/a looks better?

i used to be a ford guy, still have a 98 mustang gt, but can't deny myself the ls1/t56 anymore so it's getting traded in. just wanted to know what you guys thought before i go and buy anything.

Camaro and Firebird are identical cars under different skins. The Birds are a little more plush inside, and are slightly heavier. If you're going for pure performance, the camaro is a better choice. They are also running a few grand cheaper. Welcome to the F-body club. You're going to love these cars!!

The WS6 TAs & SS Camaros are basically the top of the line model (kinda like a Cobra). Same motor, tranny, frame etc. The Formulas & Z28s tend to weigh less than the SS or TA because they have less goodies. So for racing, the lighter car is better. But from a collector / investor standpoint the more exp & rarer car would be better. The SS & WS6 do come with ram air (+5hp!) a susp upgrade, & dif gear ratios sometimes. And they cost over $3k more new.

it's just weird to me that a company would make cars that are so similar, good thing they did though, makes it easier for me to get a my hands on one or the other.

i can't wait to get one, i was leaning towards a t/a but seeing how much cheaper and more available z/28's are i may get one of those instead, maybe an ss if i can find one.

I don't know what your price range is, but you can pick up a basically new SS for under $18,000. I'd say an '02 SS with 20k miles could be had for under $17 if you look. It's a great time to be buying an F-body. Just a really crappy time to be selling one. (like me)

Your cheapest option would be the Z28. A Firebird Formula is also cheap/light.

I agree as far as private sellers are concerned.

I just sold my 2000 Z28 w/ 65K miles on it for $12,000. It was 'brand new' clean and tight.

The best "cheap speed" (from your title) is the Formula.

Not only is it the cheapest f-body (along w/ stripper Z28's), but the sleeper effect is priceless. You'll be surprised by how many races you'll get with that "ugly V6 spoiler", lol.

Picked up my 2000 Z for 12,000 with 31,000 miles. All options except CD player and power antenna. Want to install a power antenna, and forget about the CD player, that's what the MP3 player is for.

Stripper Z28 would be my pick. That's what I got.

I'm partial to a Formula. I don't really know why but my wife suggest that it might be because I own one.

This is kinda buggin me...Check it..I raced my buddies 99' z28 (60K) w/ my 98' TA (85K) and the out come was dead friggin even and we both know how to drive. A couple of times he pulled inches in front and vice versa.

So it's not a huge difference weighing a little more... And i think the TA looks soooo much more sweet then a Camaro.. But dont get me wrong camaro's are bad ***..(especially all blacked out)..

It's all in your preference bud, if u like what the camaro offers get it, or the TA get it.

I forgot to mention i got my TA for $9000, so if i were u dont look over $15
