I've been doing some looking around on this also and it looks like the new Mickey Thompson DR's are the best for the track. They say they wont last long on the street but if your using them mostly for the track they are probably gonna be the best for you.

Okay, I have no first hand experience with DR's on a 16x8 F-body wheel but I have logged many miles on DR's on a 16x7 Mustang wheel. I've run BFG's older DR design which was a 255/50/16 and Nitto's 245/50/16. The BFG 255 was too big for the 7" wide wheel and it bulged a ton. I'm sure it would fit nicely on a 16x8 though. People say the tread wear on the BFG's is pretty bad but I got a decent life out of mine. The Nittos last longer though. As far as hook the BFG's did hook better. BFG just designed a new DR that I think might have a longer tread life. Remember though a 255/50/16 is going to have an overall diameter taller then a stock F-body tire and might throw off your speedo a bit.

I ran the Nitto 255/50/16 on my stock 16" wheels. They worked fine on the street and the track.

my buddy is running bfg 255/60/r16's on his fox mustang, it gets outa the hole pretty good. you can find them at tirerack.com and they're pretty cheap.
