I would go ahead and buy some arp studs. You will never have to buy a set of head bolts again. Not to mention how much time it will save you in coolant cleanup if you ever have to pull the heads off again.

I would recommend going with ARP hardware. Either ARP head bolts or head studs and definetly buy a ARP crank balancer bolt. Stock GM head and crank bolts will do the job, but are torque to yeild, so they are one time use only. Going with the ARP will also ease your install when it comes time to torque everything down. The GM MLS head gaskets work fine, don't forget new pushrods. The water pump and front cover gaskets are reuseable unless the rubber is seperated from the metal part. Install a new front cover seal as well.

Shoot me a PM if you have any questions or call the shop mon-sat 8-6.

ok, im going to try and piece it all together seeing i have some stuff already. i have a new crank bolt that came with the march pulley so ill just use that one. i have all the parts like oil pump, pushrods, and all that stuff just need gaskets. what are gaskets i WILL HAVE TO replace? i know the valve covers will be ok. can i reuse the stock rocker bolts?

The stock rocker bolts are ok to reuse. make sure you put RTV sealant on the intake valve rocker bolts. Head gaskets should be the only ones you have to replace if all the others are good.

Yes, use a little bit to coat the threads. I usually use orange high temp or black RTV gasket sealer. If you look at the intake ports on a ported head, the rocker bolt may go thru all the way into the port. Oil can get in there and contaminate the intake charge and lead to smoke.

I agree to go with ARP.

Since you're thinking of using the bolts and not the studs - I sent you a PM.

how much do the head studs cost??

here is my list of parts so far, let me know if im missing something:
valve locks
valves
bare heads
valve seals
vavle seats
retainers
dual springs
cam
pushrods
fuel pump
fuel pump wiring
ls6 oil pump
ls2 timing chain
drive shaft
hp tuners
plugs
pulley
pulley bolt
injectors

then i will get:
head bolts
waterpump gaskets
head gaskets
front seals

what else do i need or would be good to do? i already did ls6 intake and TB and ls6 pcv conversion.

Here's some good reading on the head gaskets:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1166902

As for other things, you list many head parts but your opening post stated that you were going to use the AFR 205's.....they should come complete.
What injectors are you looking at ? ...the 28.8 ('01-02) should be ok up to 440 RWHP and can be purchase from Texas Speed & Performance for $100 (I think) and comes with new fuel rails as well !
I would suggest the ARP crank bolt (pulley bolt) and not a stock GM one - more expensive but reusable and won't break
You'll need some coolant and oil.

Other possible upgrades:
thermostat
plug wires
catch can

I'm sure that I can think of more, just hard to focus with the game on right now.

Good luck !

You may not be planning on taking the heads off again, but you could very well end up doing it!

yeah i have been thinking about that haha, might have to go back if i screw up, of course i dont plan on it but u never know. yeah all those upgrades i have done. tried a catch can but it didnt help out any. oil consumption isnt too bad right now, it just has an oily coat in the intake thats it no pooling.

yeah i have the 28.8 injectors already. i am buying the afr heads bare and assembling myself, saving myself some money. plus i planned on cam only but then decided to just do the heads too. so how much is the arp crank bolt and the head studs (just to take into consideration)

would there be any issues with using all factory bolts?

GM head bolts can stretch.
GM crank bolt can break - you'll only make that mistake once
....and you can only use these once ARP can be reused - if you decide go back in again.

bolt is a bolt that u gotta put through the head, the stud goes into the block and goes through the head when you install the head. the studs are all put into the block before the head is put on
