Default Are 5 pinion planetaries necessary?

I'm collecting parts for my transmission build and I was wondering if I really need the 5 pinion planetaries. Has anybody ever broke the stock 4 pinion set up? The tranny will have to hold about 550-600rwhp.

Thanks,
Andrew

I've had several talks to a guy who works for Hughes.
He says he finds broken 5 pinion planetaries a lot. He's never seen a broken four pinion. He's seen four pinions worn so bad they did fail, but the five pinions just break.

Well maybe I should just run the 4 pinion and see what happens. I supose that I'd rather have them wear out than break.

Ive seen broken 4 pinions. its worth the $$$ to get the 5 pinion. the front one is for your overdrive the rear for the other gears, the rear one i would get for sure.

to set the record straight, the front planet is first gear, the rear is od and comes on to over drive first to make second. that is why the rear planet gets beat up, it is overdriving 3.06 times the engine torque to make 1.62 second. l hope that is helpful

So since this is a budget build. If I where to do one planetary it should be the rear? Also, is everybody using an aftermarket 5 pinion or is it just a stock 4L65 piece?
