Default cam?

Can you put a cam in a ls1 without a verter.......I always thought you had to have hearders and a verter but I never knew for sure. I was thinking I might be able to get away with a small cam?

His question really is part of the never ending and very popular, "What are the Top 10 Ls1 Mods?" topic:

1. Airlid
2. Intake manifold
3. Supercharger
4. Headers
5. Exhaust system
6. Cam
7. Heads
8. Tuning
9. Nitrous
10. Converter
11. Gears
12.

In fact there should be a forum dedicated solely to this topic.

I am sure i will get a verter sooner or later....but the $700 for a good one plus the install kinda hurts. I have a set of 3.73 waiting to be installed ( currently have 2.73) and have the longtubes and magna flow exaust on the way....I think i'll be in the 12's all day with that. At the end of the days $700 is a ton of $$$ for a verter if you ask me. I know...you gotta pay to play!
