Default Raced a 911 Turbo...then a Carrera 4S..almost

Man what is it with 911 drivers wanting to race me? I mean I get nothing from Boxster drivers, but 911 guys will do a U-turn in traffic to catch up for me for a race. It's funny because noone will race me in the TA.....well loud and Cammy sounding so I can understand why, but when I'm in the M3 people come out of the wood work. *shrug*

Anyways, I'm not really one to street race, I got it out of my system when I was in my twenties, but before today I've had two 911s try to start somethng and I've let maturity get the better of me and haven't done a thing about it....

....until today when a new-styled 911 turbo (with TechArt Exhaust pipes and a Bi-Plane spoiler) started playing with me in traffic. Decided "what the heck" and we did some little 50-80 spurts and to be honest he simply couldn't loose me, we were pretty dead even at that speed. When I say spurts, I meant figurativly for me and actual for him because puffs of black smoke would spurt out of his tail pipes as he slammed the gas. Anyhow so we get to a Toll plaza near the mall, and I'm in the lane in front of him... I had hoped he would pull into a stall next to me.... oh well, so I went through and coasted to a stop, waited for him to pay, and we both florred it. Now I was maybe 20 feet in front of him, but I must have gotten the jump because I put huge distance on him in first gear, Second gear Maybe half a car length, Third gear dead even. 4th gear he stars to wind me in.... hit traffic and shut it down.

As we work through traffic he gets a couple of cars in front of me then once traffic clears we both hit it. 3rd gear...noth'n, I neither gain nor loose on him dead even, 4th gear, again he starts to slowly walk me... then I look at the speedo...crap 135 with 140 coming up fast!!! Suddenly my age catches up to me (and him too I guess) and we both slow down, come up beside him to give him the and he's skowling looking straight forward wouldn't look over. Sheesh in my book he won, and I'm the one that should be disapointed...humph....but actually I'm just stoked the little M did as well as it did against the $100K supercar.

So I puter along a little ways further down the road and a Blue Carrera 4S starts playing with me.... sheesh.... is it Stugart day or something? Sadly traffic was bad, so he gave up in frustration and took an exit.

It's an Manual 6-speed with 18"s so that would be the fastest config. The 19"s are heavy and the SMG is a few tenths slower. I haven't run my car at the track ...don't plan on it since it's my daily driver, not my racer, but I've seen others on M3Forum with my config run 12.7-13.3@106-108 More or less the same to a C5 vette. It's geared like Crazy from the factory, 5th gear is the 1:1 but with an 80000 RPM redline it can handle reving to keep up with the gearing.

You raced a TT 911. they have 415awd hp and he didnt catch you till the top end? They do a 12.3 @ 115mph. I have race alot of stock M3s and never seen one break 13s. But, anything can happen on the street

You're right they are fast and I have seen them quoted as slow as mid twelves. But he blew his launch rather badly so that might have been part of it too. We were fairly even from 50-80 (we did a couple of back and forth spurts at that speed) but for all I know he could have been panzy'ing out in the wrong gear. Once I got into 4th though he walked me rather hard. that said I have an Manual-6 with 18"s which is a hair faster than the SMG 19"s you see tested all the time. Not to mention some wine and Cheese Mags have even pulled 13.1@107mph out of that config. Much like the LS1s you'll see even stockers in the 12's given the right conditions. So it would be a close race if the faster car was taken off guard. (Not that I'm saying my driving skill would pull a 12). At any rate, it was a fun little race, first I've actually done in years since I "hung up my spurs" but who can resist an Exotic wanting to play

Now had I been on my bike, the race would have finished much differently...
