Question about the diagonal bars coming off the main hoop in a rollcage
I'm thinking of going ahead and getting my rollbar upgraded to a full cage this winter...
I have a question about the 2 diagonal bars that go toward the driveline tunnel...
Per the NHRA rulebook...they are mandatory whenever the mainhoop is welded to plates (which will be the case). AND they have to be connected to the subframe.
How are you all doing this? IIRC the rear subframe isn't really in that general area...Anyone have a picture showing how they did this.
The wolfe cage (on thier site) shows those diagonals welded to plates which wouldn't be legal according to the NHRA right?

TIA

From what I understand they are supposed to go to the frame / sub which is not in that location on our cars. They're called "D" bars. didn't have them put in. It hasn't been certified yet but the Techs at Rt 66 said it is correct.

NHRA books said they are REQUIRED when the hoop is welded to plates. They are optional if the hoop is welded to the car's frame
this is off NHRA's site, same as is in the rulebook other than the 7.50 was changed to 8.50 IIRC. I'm reffering to the bar labelled D

You're right fireball, I welded my "d-bars" to the floor pan on 6"x6" pads and I barely squeaked by the chassis cert, and I had to promise to tie them in to a crossmember (read: build a crossmember for them) before the next cert is due.

Someone I know doesn't even have the D bars in their car and it passed the cert. LOL
I have mine welded to a 6-6 plate and he said cool.
On this setup I tacked them to the subframes but me and brian had to re jig notch the bars to bring them alittle closer in. The main hoop welds to the outside bar going up the rocker panel.
