Default rear pinion seal leaking

After an inspection on my car i was told my rear pinion seal was leaking. I don't think it is terribly bad but I think I need to replace it. How should I go about fixing it? Thanks. I have 130k on my LT1.

The body shop told me the cost would be $160 for them to do it. Is replacing just the seal ok?

That should do the trick. Just have them replace the seal.

You have to pull the yoke off, then you can get the seal swapped out. It sounds easier than it is, but it's not that difficult. The tough part is busting the pinion nut loose, and then getting it retightened correctly.

I just had mine done under warranty. It was pretty upsetting because i only have 35K on the car, however its a 1999, if that matters.

The hardest part of doing it is getting the yoke off like LOnSLO said. Plus you should get a new crush sleeve when you do this. If you get a new crush sleeve, it will be a bitch to try and do this with out an Impact gun.

My friend has a compressed air nut remover(forgot what they call em) so getting it off wasn't too hard. The hardest part I would say was getting the old seal off. I pryed it off with a screwdriver. We didn't look which way the yoke was on before we took it off however and that could of caused a problem. I put it back on almost straight up and down and then turned it a little to the left. I beleive that is how it was before. Thanks guys. Total cost was about 12 bucks I'm glad I did it myself.
