Weight Reduction Help - Whos the lightest?
Ok who here has the lightest car without spending the most money in aftermarket parts. What all was done? I need to get some weight out of the car and I know I can do aftermarket brakes, etc.. But Im interested to see what all everyone has. I know John Campbell was down in the 2900+lb area with just a hood as weight reduction money mods. Y'all throw me some ideas here.

Things that magnus mentioned and chromoly k-member, gutting dash, chromoly a-arms, !evap system on gas tank, !carpet, !sound deadener, lightweight wheels, front runners, drag brakes, radiator catch can, get rid of those dual-heavy electric fans, !a/c, !heat, !door bars, !bumpers, and I could go on for about an hour. Lighter is faster! Good luck!

Our car is similar to Keith's (Magnus setup), but we do not yet have the light weight brakes. We gutted everything out from our car, since it is a track only bracket race car, and it weighs just under 2900 lbs without the driver. Full race weight is 3050, but we need to verify that since the scale I used was reading high. Check out her website (in my sig) for more details on the Z28.

I have seen most of our hardcore guys' cars over the years, and I can safely say that Magnus' is more "lightened" than Col's car. I have seen both cars in the last three months.

I haven't yet weighed my car after I've tore thru it but my car will still be full interior although it should be down around 3,000 or less once I'm done... that is without driver. I'm looking for raceweight to be less than 3200....
What I did so far.
K-member, A-arms, QA1's,Aerospace components front drag brakes, racing seats, got rid of heavy 4" mufflex for a 3" dual setup with bullet mufflers and turndowns prior to the rear axle (that overaxle pipe weighs a ton).
Replaced normal battery with an optima (the optima is lighter), Fiberglass hood, removed everything under the dash including HVAC, all venting stuff like fan and heater core, Airbags, and all stock wiring from the car (probably at least 40lbs of wiring). I'm going to use a Gen VII standalone harness and rewire the car with a painless pro-street kit and a switchpanel. Removed the ABS stuff from the left framerail, got rid of the power brake booster, manual steering rack, ditched the power steering pump, got rid of the annoying alternator bracket that is heavy and got a Madman low mount alternator bracket. Next thing I gotta do is lighten the doors by cutting the side impact braces out. Got rid of the radio as well and took out the door speakers and back speakers also..... And I'm also going to do the Aerospace drag brakes out back and also switch from draglites to Alumastar 2.0's....I think that's it so far. If I don't get it down where I want it I'll order the VFN fiberglass hatch and the lexan rear window. That's like 100 lbs right there gone!

My goal is to chop ~150 lbs off my car this year. Most of it will be gutting, including but not limited to:
The eventual goal is 3200 with me in it and a full tank. Currently sits at 3290 without me in it and 3/4 tank. I weigh 165.
- ABS
- EBCM
- Extra wiring
- Rigging up a tubular bumper support
- Hoods / pins
- Lightweight carpet

I was looking at all your pics and that car looks great. How much trouble was it to relocate the adjuster for the alternator belt only. I have removed the entire a/c system and want to remove the power steering and water pump.
Thanks

Last day of 2004 race season my birdie weighed 2,900 pounds EVEN!
I had a couple tools in the car also.
I am planning on ditching the air bags next..... and would like to get the light weight brake set up for the front at least.
I want 2850 by mid season.... 50 pounds away... not too far
