Default What heads for cars runnign nitrous?

I want to replace my heads been fiddling the idea for way too long already. and almost wasted the funds on some wheels instead. i know bad idea lol. But what shoudl i be getting 5.7,5.3,LS6 and then there are the different cc's. all the different choices are making me so i ask here to help me make up my mind. i know for sure im not going with the PP and i know i dont want to compression ratio too high be it running N2O.

Thanks Steve

I would be looking at some AFRs and this is why. No matter what you want the deck surface as thick as you can get it when you are spraying because of the amount of pressure in the combustion chamber. The AFRs have a much thicker deck surface. You can then have TEA port them for you if you like. They are the best hands down I am sure.

As for the compression thing with nitrous. It doesn't matter how high your compression is as long as you know how to tune the car (timing and octane in fuel). My nitrous motor has 14.77:1 static compression. Your cam plays a big roll in your compression that is being used (dynamic compression ratio). Plug in some numbers before getting the heads ordered so you know what kind of compression you can deal with.

I would say around a 60cc chamber head will get you an all around good set of heads for motor and bottle. JMO though.

I am looking for more power but not all out if that makes sense. I dont plan on changing out the cam and i know that makes the world of a difference here. So basically Im looking for a good street able setup although i dont drive on a daily basis. right now im at 385 +/- hp i forgot what the tq was since i lost my sheet after the tuning. on juice im at 470hp/490tq with my 100 shot dry. i pretty much plan on staying at that amount of spray as i have been at that amount for over a year and am pleased. once i get the heads i wil get some 30lb injectors. i guess my goal is to have another 30 hp's and id be happier. i also have a meziere pump going in soon that wasnt when i dynoed. or tuned with the given hp/ tq i stated.

actually i didnt have the gmmg i had a flowmaster with cutout, i dint have the spec and flywheel either, or the rails.

so what am i looking for.... a good set of reliable heads that wont cost me over 1800 to my door and i think i am being generous with the 1800 as that would be the utmost i would want to spend. that could net me another 30 more hp's.

A certain casting dosen't play any role in whether or not the head will perform on nitrous. You can have great 5.3, 5.7, or LS-6 nitrous heads. Obviouslly, with your budget, LS-6's are out of the question because there core charge starts at $1200. You can however get LS-6 "style" heads from Force Fed High performance within your budget. It would be my personal opinion, that with the budget you have, I would contact TEA and have them work a set of 5.3 heads, hand finished, with a nitrous exaust port. You should still be able to get out for around $1500-$1700 and have a set of heads that perform awesome on motor, but when you spray, you have alot more power over another set of heads without the No2 exaust port.

So i looked up TEA's site and by the looks of it... their Stage 1.5 5.3L heads are better than their Stage 2. Therefore im kind of leaning towards their Stage 1.5 5.3L. And talk to them about getting the N2O exhaust ports like you guys have said.

But i havent ruled out FFHP yet. I need to contact them still.... other wise if FFHP "Brad" can send me a pm on what he suggest also. cuz yes money is somewhat a factor ofcourse. So Brad let me know what you can do thats comparable, although i have looked at your flow numbers vs TEA's.

For use with nitrous, you'd want the S2. The S1.5 uses a sock exhaust valve. The S2 uses a Ferrea exhaust valve, which will hold up better on nitrous.

Im thinking of using nitrous in the future, how do the MTI stg.2R's stack up? Not sure what cam im gunna go with, gunna call MTI and ask em what they would recommend for a car here in cali that is gunna pass smog. I know biggest i could go would be a 224/224 114lsa, anyone have any comments with that cam and the stg.2R's???

IMO the heads won't make nearly the difference on nitrous as the cam will. Any good stage II heads should suit your needs as long as the exhaust is opened up. I have 5.7 heads and my dyno numbers looked pretty good on the squeeze. My cam has a little extra exhaust duration, which I'm sure helps out a bit...
