Default How bad will I beat a 96 Cobra?

It's stock.

I know we all hate these "what if" threads... but my car's away for storage, and I am geting antsy. So I challenged this guy in my car club who has a 96 Mustang Cobra because he also happens to have a picture of a guy beating a Chevy Bowtie with a baseball bat in his avatar...

I'm sure I'll win pretty badly... any input as to what that car can run?

Bad, very bad...unless he's got mods.

Does he have mods?

You'll beat him by umm..... A LOT. Unless he's got a loads of nitrous or a supercharger i wouldn't worry about anything.

You should take him pretty easily unless he is blown or juiced.

even if he has a 75 shot exhaust and intake u should be able to beat him...

i outran 00' gts with these mods with lid/cutout, then again my car is really light..

this same gt ran 8.29 1/8th on 75 shot later on,but i think he added a gear.

Stock 96 Cobras run about 13,9 to 14.0
You should not have a problem.

There's a '96 Cobra near me that runs high 9's. See what mods will do? What kind of mods does he have? If it's just the basic bolt ons, he's screwed. Even with nitrous you'll pull him.

When I had my 97 Cobra I went 13.7@103 bone stock.....by the time I was done with her (bolt ons and a Vortech) she was dynoing 456 to the wheels. Don't underestimate that Cobra....I personally know of someone that went 13.07 on nothing more than a set of gears and slicks everything else was bone stock all the way down to the paper filter.

Fully built rear clutch, slicks skinneys, 4.30 gears, mid pipe and cat back and a filter my buddy was running 12.50s all day long launching at 6500 rpms and pulling 1.50 60 foots. Tranny blew up runs a 3550 now and is faster.

That always seems to be the problem with those 6500 launches on slicks. I ran a 97 cobra from a roll when all I had was longtubes. He had 4.10 gears, suspension, full exhuast no mufflers or cats, intake, tb, ported manifold, 100 shot dry etc. His manual to my auto from a 40 roll to 110 (somehow I got that magical downshift I'm never able to get at 40, I must've been cheating the system and going a little under 40 ) I had maybe a bumper on him. His car was plenty quick, he wouldn't run me from a dig though he said he'd get destroyed due to lack of traction on the spray. Don't doubt the thing but if he's not doing something big my bets on you.

From a dig on street tires esp with stock gears they are slow. Their power is all in the upper rpms and it takes an hour to get there on stock gearing. You shuld wax his!

Without some form of power adder he dosnt have a chance against you. Unless he completely tubbed his car, added gears, full bolt-ons, and some internals... but i dont know many people that will do that to a cobra.

With my lid and cutout 01 Z, I beat my buddies full bolt-on 97 cobra by 4-5 car lengths from 60-120mph. My buddy sold that car and got a 96 forged bottom ended, bolton-on with a Vortec running 11 psi and was even with my brothers hc 00 z28 from 50 to 120. The Cobra started pulling slighty after that. He's now going turbo and will be pushing 700+++

You will kill a lightly modded 96! I've seen a few stock 96-98 corbas dyno 245-250rwhp, exhaust and intake mods are not going to make that big of a difference. N/A cobra's can't compete from a roll when you start modding ls1's, ie headers cam ect.

Tape it and post it on SVTperformance, then callout that jackass talking all that trash about his car having 335hp.

Later,
Dave
