You can run the same 'big cam' with the 5.3l heads as you can with the 5.7l heads. There isnt a specific 'biggest cam' since there are so many factors that go into deciding if a cam fits or not.

the above is true however the valve on a 5.3 is slightly closer to to the piston than on a 5.7 so it could limit camshaft selection but not by a large amount.

True, and since not many people put stock 5.3l heads on, you need to pay attention to what size valves are used also

I know that by putting the 5.3 heads on a LS1 bumps up the compression by just a little bit. But how much does the horsepower actually go up?

I doubt it would go up at all using a stock 5.3 head in fact I bet it would go down. Now comparring ported to ported from what we have seen a ported 5.3 head seems to be worth about 20-30 hp over a ported 5.7 head

Since it's impossible to determine with all the possible grind combinations, How about some options in big "shelf cams" like the G5X3 or the MS3.My valves are 2.02 and 1.6 on unmilled 5.3 PP heads. I want a max effort cam to work with my heads and n2o. Any suggestions??
