Default Cam swap....

Well, I'm going to swap my cam with an MTI G1 in a few weeks since I just recently learned that cam swaps cost around $700.... Anyways, my question is that I have heard a lot of high mileage oil pumps going bad. My car currently has 88,000 miles.

Should I go ahead and swap the Oil pump while I'm doing the cam swap, and also what type of oil pump should I get? LS6 oil pump???

I think its a good idea. I'm doing it with mine and I only have 27K on my car. The ported ls6 oil pump is what most people have recommended to me. It will help to keep your oil pressure up. I think it is more important to do with larger cams but recommended on any cam swap. Your going to be in there, might as well replace it now rather than take a chance on it failing.

Just got my cam done and I got 100,000 miles on it. I will be doing a stock LS6 oil pump in a couple weeks. I don't want to take the chance.

Yeah, in your case esp. since you have a 98, get an LS6 pump. The oil pumps are a known problem and they go without warning so why take the chance?

Some people just go with a LS2 timing chain for around $30 or a replacement LS1 chain. I'm going with the LS2 myself.
