Question Is There Any Way To Make My '02 Temp Gauge Work?

My friend's '98 Z28 has a gauge that will show you the actual temp. What would it take to replace the dummy gauge put in all '99+ year model cars? There must be an easy way!

i have an ls1 dash in my 3rd gen with a 97 LT1 cluster. my gauge actually reads correctly. i have heard that all others sit at just under 210 all the time.
i used a autometer sending unit that was sent with a temp gauge i used in the past, just wired it up to the GRN wire off the back of the cluster.
hope that helps....
