Traction will be key. If you can produce similar or a little less power and hook it up better than the ZO6, you'll get him.

Of course, I'm thinking in terms of a mild head/cam or large cam only LS1 vs a stock LS7. A well built, big head/cam or power adder LS1 would take it pretty easily. Once head/cam and power adders become available for the LS7 though, look out. I can't wait to see what that motor does when the aftermarket gets ahold of it.

Good point, might be as common as Vipers are now. Which aren't very common, at least around here.

These LS7's are going to be kinda rare, and mostly driven by not so young folks around where I live. I'm hopin to get one of Mikey's relseeved LS2 blocks, which will end up pricing out to be $3400 new LS2 block included. Not too shabby. Even fully built, that motor will price out under the guesses on prices for the LS7 motor. Throw some LS7 heads on that bitch and a healthy cam and I'll eat up LS7 Z06s every day of the week, for 1/3 of the price.

Guys...

Consider that it will probably put down 460 ish at the tire. Certainly a handfull (considering how light the car is), and CRAZY to consider its coming out of GM with a warranty, but I think there will only be a select few owners that will take that car and start modifying it and negating the warrany. A real good 346 can make those numbers, and it becomes even easier when looking at 383's, 402, 427 Darton blocks, etc.

Kudos to GM for producing this engine....It certainly sets the bar fairly high for the future of our sport.

It will be a rare event to find one, there be open area to race it, and the driver actually willing to race it. The chance of those 3 events happening.....like someone said, it will be like a Viper. In all the years I have been racing,10+, I have only raced one Viper.

It is cool that GM is building this car...makes me want to sell all 3 of my cars and just get one.

I am curious to see how it stands up to the Viper on the street. Should be interesting.

Tony, to improve upon the LS7 heads, maybe AFR could build some 3 valve heads like originally rumered to be on the LS7

well, that makes me feel a lil better. not that i am hardcore about racing my own kind(gm, ls1, fbodies) but it just seemed like the ls1 was "past" technology compared to what they can do these days. but i plan to keep this z28 for a while, and maybe one day, ill go ahead and put a whole new bottom end, like a couple of guys have already stated in this post. but for now, im hoping my MTI h/c package, after tune, will be enough power for me for a while

ive already raced a new C6 but i had to run out of the conveince store i was in, jump in my car, chase him down, and then follow him out of town before that happened.
I already know of 1 that will be in town,
there is a guy in town with a '03 ZO6, rouch stage 3 mustang, '04 cobra. anyways He was going to send his ZO6 to LPE for the twin turbo package but they some how convinced him to wait on the new LS7. hes all about it & has the money to do it. but hes also in our little car club so im not too worried.

It's already tough enough here with all the modded Cobra's, Ford GT's, (goofy-***)Vipers and big blocks out in the summertime on Woodward. Alot of those dudes don't even look to run em, but some do. My only bitch is people that roll out w/ slicks that's just not fair.
Last year a guy in some old hemi (w/ slicks) seriously asked if I wanted to run for titles in the middle of the day at 13 & Woodward w/ his kids in the car. Jack-***.
I hope there are a few Z06's out here in the late summer, if I catch one at a light I'll run his ***.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR SUMMER !
