Default LS2 vs LS6 heads. Are they the same?

The casting # for LS6 is 243. The casting # for LS2 heads is 317. Are they infact different heads? How? Are their flow characteristics identical? If I bolt-on an LS2 head is it the same as bolting on an LS6 head?

Yes. Chamber, intake ports, exhaust ports. No. No (valves are hollow on the LS6 assemblies).

I dont quite follow your answers. Please confirm:

Yes - they are different heads
No they are not similar specs - they have different flow characteristics due to different port intake and exhaust volumes plus chamber volumes

Is there a link someone can guide me to for exact specs on each, incl. CFM?

Are LS2 heads old 6.0L heads? I just checked my casting #'s and they are 317's. I have 6.0L heads.

The casting of the LS2 heads are indeed 243. They are identical to the ls6 heads EXCEPT for the valves. EVERYTHING else is the same.

I am glad that is cleared up. The C6 has LS6 castings with better valves.

Hmmm. Then I guess in OZ we lucked out with the VZ Monaro and you guys luck out with the '05 GTO as they both have #317 castings - based off the Vortec6000?

The C6 must be a different piece of kit even though the '05 GTO is classified the same - aka. LS2.

Good to know as I have tentatively secured a set of #317 castings that are off the LS2 here in OZ. Unless they are as good as the #243 I will have to keep looking.

Well the LS2 over here is 317 castings. Hmmm. Unless my information is wrong and my workshop doesn't know ****.

OK. Another question. Is the #243 casting better than #317?

I thought the 317 and 243 were very close. The 243 has a smaller chamber.
