M/T 22.5x8x15 slick with stock 3.42's?
Just looking through my new Jegs the other night and noticed these tires. Now, my 275/40-17 Nitto's are 25.6" so I was wondering if I could use these to net a taller gear ratio?
I know it will look stupid, and may break my 10 bolt even sooner, just kinda wondering if this is just the stupidest idea ever, or worth trying.
Last time at the track(w/Nitto's) I could dump the clutch @3500 and dead hook, but the motor bogged because not enough gear. I am saving for a 12 bolt now, and will have better gears then, just was thinking this may be a poor mans fix for the bogging prob. I could also learn to feather/slip the clutch I guess, just kinda thinking out loud.
What would a 3" shorter tire do for me ratio wise? eqiv. to 3.73-4.10?
Fire away! whatcha think?

well you'd need a 15 inch rim for starters.
i think you'd have such a small sidewall with a 22" tire and such little contact patch at 8" width you've practically be better off on your 17" nittos.
the fact that your effective gear ratio would go up would realistically only compound the above mentioned two concerns i have with the idea by overpowering those tiny tires evne more than i think a stock gear might.

I (may)have that covered. Gotta check caliper clearance.

You think? I figured with a aired down wrinkle wall it would be better.

Those are import drag tire, JFYI. As mentioned, don't waste your time ... it is better to go with a larger diameter for traction, those will reduce traction as compared to a 26" ET Street or a 275/17 ET Drag Radial.

17" rim with a 25.6" tire(275-17 Nitto)=4.3" sidewall
15" rim with a 22.5" tire=3.75" sidewall for a .55" sidewall difference.
1/2" less sidewall that is much softer seems like a wash to me.
How do the tires know if they are on an import or domestic? Not trying to be a smart ***, just don't see what the diff. is They are not a FWD slick as those were listed seperately. Traction isn't a prob. for me, gearing is the prob. I'm trying to address till I can swing a 12 bolt with some 4.10's or 4.30's.
