Default Metal-dragging-on-concrete sound when accelerating

When I go from a dig in my car, just normail stoplight city driving, from 0-2000 rpms i can hear this sound from the car that sounds like taking a piece of sheet metal and dragging it behind the car. once the car gets over 2000 rpms, the sound goes away instantly. this continues when i shift into each gear.

when the clutch pedal is depressed, or the transmission is in neutral, and i give it a little gas, there is no sound

it is a 99 z28 M6 with no mods except !FRA

any ideas? i have not noticed any power loss, but it is just annoying

See if the drive shaft is rubbing on the tunnel brace.

It could be it only does it when the engine is putting out more torque and loads the suspension so something rubs. It could be the I-pipe rubbing the driveshaft also.

gotcha

i thought it was something worse like throwout bearing or transmission issues

how can i check that seeing as how the sound only occurs when the car is in gear and moving?

Look for scratch marks on the driveshaft.

is it ok to just remove the tunnel brace altogether and run without one?

Mine's been gone for years too......all you need is the transmission crossbrace down there......as long as you have a good set of DD subframes

i installed my catback today and there was no damage on the driveshaft from rubbing or anything else. it looked damn near brand new

so now i am thinking maybe it is something in the cats rattling around?
