Default Those running Crane 832 ... what install height did you use?

I'm going to be replacing my REV 1116 springs w/some Crane 832 springs.

Cam is 238/242 598/603 112

Crane's 832s have really low seat pressure at 1.8" install height (112 seat pressure, 352 open)

If I install at 1.750 that bumps them up to 129 seat pressure

I've heard I want around 140 seat pressure ... so that would mean shimming .08 ... sound about right?

also what affect does shimming have on open pressure? According to Crane's site they're 352*1.150" If I shim .08 does that mean my open is now 1.070 ?

Coil bind is at 1.045 so I'd be .025 from coil bind then right?

It looks like the most I'd want to shim would in fact me .05 as this would leave me with .054" before coil bind

This would then yield about 130# seat pressure and 370# open pressure ... would this be enough for the cam above?

Just wanting to see what others w/big cams have shimmed these to and if I'm understanding hte math properly

Do you have the newer or older cranes? The newer ones have the stripes. Typically set them up .050 to .060 from coil bind. So for the intake you would be 1.045+.060 +.598=1.703 installed height on the intake, the exhaust would be 1.045+.060+.603=1.708. U should install the seats and retainers first and check with a spring mic to see what the factory installed height is. From there u can figure out how much shim you need. I have seen variances in different manufactureres retainers.

Vortech: Awesome, exactly what I was looking for... I wasn't sure if my open height calcs were right... but you've cleared that up

They should be the newer ones (just ordered yesterday from thunder)

so given about .1, that'll give me a seat pressure of about 147# ... which should be plenty I'd think...

I've got one of those spring height micrometer things I ordered a few weeks ago so should be set

Thanks!
