Default How light can it go.

Weighed my car without tires and it came out to 2863. After doing the lexan/fiberglass hatch and the hood it should be around 2750 (without wheels/tires). Just curious who is lighter and how you got there?

now comes the tough part of explaining what you all did beyond the normal weight reduction mods to get to that weight

FYI...a Formula hatch complete weighs ~75#'s with half being the hatch and half being the glass. Got one and took the glass out in prep for a lexan window. Take care.

Why would you care about what it weighs without rims/tires on it?

^^^^^^^^^LOL^^^^^^^^^^ but you'll lose everything in lack of traction. oh well, give and take, trial and error. btw, i don't think anyone knows the weight of their car without tires and rims aside from you. unless of course someone knows the exact weight of their tires and rims.

Dave

ps.......were the lugs still on? how much gas? any windshield fluid? radiator fluid? brake fluid? sorry......just being a smart ***.

Measured on plate scales. I am sure that the wheels/tires weigh around 150-200lbs so that would put me in the 3000 range. I only care about the weight minus the wheels/tires because it has none. I haven't ordered bogarts yet... So what the "real" question is is how do you get below the ~3000 mark? I figured a lot of fiberglass removal could be done but how much could that possibly weigh. Just trying to look beyond the wallet mods and the ones on the list. I have pretty much done all of them now.

Also, let me clarify my question. I am just curious how some people are getting so low in weight. I had maybe 3 gallons in the tank and no coolant in the radiator. No carpet, No panels, hollowed dash. All wallet mods except hood and hatch, manual rack. Most of the free mods are done. I just don't see how people are getting below 3k pounds and was curious what else had to go to get sub 3k.

I'm under 3000 with a 10 point cage. Only fiberglass piece I have is the pin on hood. Everything else was just getting rid of stuff. Everything behind the dash is gone and the car has door panels and two seats.

You guys should give up on gutting your fbody's and do what i did after I gutted a couple. Buy a 86-91 RX7 and drop an ls1/4l60e in it. It should be under 3000 with a full interior and power everything.

yeah but at the end of the day its still a 86-91 rx-7. I could have easily done this with a coupe, but then there are so many less classes i can run in

I actually like driving the rx7 over an fbody.. little smaller, better fit for me.

The thing that sucks is there are no classes to run in with a hybrid. I am saving all my conversion parts from when I did my ls1 swap into a 95 camaro and probably going to buy an early 4th gen hardtop in a year or so and swap another ls1 into it if I want to race in any classes.

My old '98 used to weigh ~2875lbs. or so. That was with all the "normal" weight saving stuff, and most of the more "hardcore" things too.

'glass hood, moly k-member, removed extra stuff from wiring harness, no radio, etc...

Yeah that is what I figured. I just began cutting out some sheet metal but am not sure how far I can go. I am curious as to whether I can safely cut some of the sheet metal by the back seat speaker housings or not.
