Street Racing & Kill Stories - Man, these streets are gettin' mean (Future Races)

Hey everyone. The streets around my house are gettin pretty mean. From what I've heard, there's a 9-second Nova cruisin' the neighborhood, and my buddy just set up two races for me with some badass cars. The first is this '03 Cobra. The driver is the Eminem wannabe that keeps talkin' shit, and need so badly to put him in his place. However, his car ain't stock. He's got a ported blower, smaller blower pulley, chip, cold air intake, and full exhaust. He's claim 490 @ the wheels...shouldn't it be higher with those mods? Anyway, his car's still heavy as hell, with IRS, and he's on street tires, so I MIGHT have a chance if I finish my exhaust and get my cam. Hopefully I can show him that real small blocks don't need power adders. Now for the second car...it's an '04 Evo VIII. He just ordered forged internals, a bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, boost controller, and a few other parts I can't remember right now. He ran a 13.1 BONE STOCK, and he's hoping for low 12's. I should nail him with a cam, but I still have yet to get said cam. I'll keep you all posted, but if this keeps up, I might get a small dry shot just for a backup plan.
Adam
Call me crazy, but it looks to me like you're going to need more than an exhaust and a cam to beat a 490rwhp Cobra. Go ahead and get that spray you were talking about.

I've seem a cam-only LS! (Jagermeister's, I believe) walk two pullies Cobras and seen some similar races before, though you can't always go off of stuff like that. However, 490 rwhp does not go as far in an '03 Cobra as it does in an LS1. It's heavier, it has IRS, and for some reason, the power just doesn't seem to translate into quicker E.T.'s like it does with our cars. If I get the right cam I can probably hang with him, especially with my converter and good tuning, but a 100 shot can't hurt. Either way, I just want to shut this kid and his little estrogen-filled Mustang club up.
Hey, give it a shot man. If it were me, I'd want the bottle just in case.

If he has all of those mods he should be up around 510-535 RWHP. I make right at 490 RWHP with just a 2.8 pulley, tune, CAI and catback. The '03 Cobra's need about a 40 RWHP advantage to run with an F-body and usually can't get better than a 1.5 60' with stickies.

Yes, they are, even though they're hidden among the 16-second Euro civics and other assorted automotive trash.

9s aint a thing amongst those old novas. At least around here most older novas that race are sporting big blocks and alot of them are in the 9s or better. They're lightweights, especially when gutted, and have alot of room for engine. Our cars have alot better street manners though. At high altitude dont mess with a forced induction car if it has more horse than you. If I remember right though chicago's pretty low you might have a decent chance with that cobra.

Thanks. Well, I'm ordering a TSP233/239 cam (again - with dual springs this time), trying to decide on either Edelbrock Victor or Mac mid-length headers/ORY, and looking into some Drag Radials. Gotta be ready in 2-3 weeks.

i would get a 12 bolt at least if your gonna drop some dr'z.
Yeah, ive seen camd Z take out 03 cobras but its not always gonna be that way.... But very likely...
Also, the stock turbo on an EVO can handle up to 25-26psi effeciently. If he got a larger turbo its gonna have more lag but more more potential. With the forged internals and intercooler, i think both you and the cobra should watch out though..he can crank the boost way up.
either way, spend some insurance money and get your self a small shot.....kick down, hit fourth.....spray and hold on......they both have power adders, why cant you?

He has an auto. No need to blow $2000 on a 12-bolt for Drag radials on the street. If he was running slicks at the track, then a 12-bolt would be necessary.
Are these races going to be filmed? I think you'll definetly need more to hang with that Cobra.

Jager did not walk that cobra. The cobra started a gear lower and once in power held him to a dead heat. Jager made 400 at the time at the cobra made 450. I have the file downloaded onto my computer simply for the fact that I love hearing his car w/open headers.

ah, yes even with the auto...
let see wat happens when he is at the line, punches it with the DR'z. Auto or m6, that power is gonna be transmitted to the rear end and well, lets pray your right.....

I agree a 12-bolt would be money well spent. I just said that though because he said he has 2-3 weeks to get ready for these races..and while a 12-bolt would protect his ass and give him piece of mind..it would also slow him down and cost him ~ 2k. DR's on the street will also spin somewhat off the line if he stalls it, so he won't dead hook. ANyway, not to get off topic.. :drive:

You WILL not win with just a cam and headers. I promise you that you are gonna get raped in front of all of your friends. I think you think a little too highly of your car, or a little too lowly of the 03 cobra. You better be buying a nitrous kit. Buy a small nitrous cam and some LT headers, DON'T fuck with the Mac midlengths and spray a 100 shot. If you hold out on the spray you are gonna get embarassed. I wouldn't recommend talking too much shit before the races. I'm telling you all of this because you're gonna embarass yourself and all other LSx's when he pulls buses on you.

I must agree. Get the spray. If he has all that he says he has and can drive his car, it's going to be pretty hard to beat him with just a cam. How much does your car weigh? If you have done some weight reductions then maybe, but if not I think your in for a fight. Let us know the outcome. I'll be pulling for you because you are an LS1 family member. I was also pulling for the Eagles but it didn't help. Let us know the results.

Good luck man! I can't wait to see how things turn out. Make sure you get a video. Watch out for that evo to though. With all that he won't only make low 12's but could very possibly make it into the 11's. Good luck!!

I'm gonna vote on the spray as well. If you've got a good stall, sticky tires, nice selected cam, and spray, you will rip him to pieces from a dead stop. Spray in second gear and he will watch you go bye bye.
On the street, it's tough to beat a LS1 with those mods. Especially if the fbody is a lightweight. Take the stereo system out of the back if you happen to have one.

you need to spray cobra to run with him, cam is not enough..
i got 03 Cobra and with just a pulley and cold air i ran 12.20 432rwhp.
490 should put him in mid 11s easy.
good luck..

nay, search for jagermiester and see his vids.....
back to topic, a cam only can beat a 03 cobra but with those mods and the evo (which i think might blow the doors of the cobra) you'll need the magic salsa for "safety" measures....

Not downing your car, but it will NOT hang with that snake if he has the power he claims to and he can drive. You WILL need to spray and then I'll say you have a close race on your hands.
Tell ya what...if you want a warm up race I know a guy in Chicago with a blown GT automatic, that'd be willing to run you. Let me know!

Good choice on the cam, and it'll work real well with the spray. If it were me, I'd want a good 3200 or higher stall TC, a 12 bolt and gears, the cam and a 150 wet shot. Being that's a lot of cash, you should be safe with a 150 shot. Unless of course the snakes got some goodies he didn't tell you a bout.

OBZD.... juggernaut is an exception. He is running a huge stall, slicks, high redline, lightened up and a BIG ASS cam. When my car was cam-only, it never ran like that.
