What should I do next for my 408 project?

What should I do next for my 408 project?
Ok, I have the stuff for the short block ready. I now have to decide which way to go. I have enough money left to do one of three things. I can either finish the engine with a set of AFR heads, and good rockers, or run my heads with factory rockers and buy an ATI charger, or run my stuff with a turbo kit. I can always come up with the money in say a year to do the AFR head thing, but i dought I will have enough anytime soon to buy a supercharger kit or turbo kit.
Which way of the three do you think I would get the most bang for my buck?
Oh yeh, if I boost it I plan on boosting it at least 8 psi but no more then 10 psi.

Any more votes? Looks pretty close right now. I need more votes to help make up my mind. I would love a turbo kit but were do I get one and I just bought $600 headers. I looked at the rear mounted turbo kit. There is a guy here in town with one but my wimpy car can just destroy him. I do not think I would go rear mounted. Any other kits out there?

i would suggest the ATI since your have the headers and its a little less complicated to install. I would just port the heads and stick with the stock rockers. Also, with any FI kit, you'd need to key the crank.
I like the turbo kit but will always lean towards the ATI. The centrifugal is abit less efficient than the turbo but it more off the line horsepower and you can always upgrade blower pulleys if you want more power. AT a 8-10psi range (and trust me, you'll never get enough with either boost of magic salsa!!) a turbo would be overkill. IF you see the dyno'z on a 8psi ATI and a 8psi turbo, the power range is almost identical. ITs when you start pounding the boost is when you start noticing hte differences. If you want to stay conservative go ATI....
good luck.

Thats realy not a good comparison. 8 psi on a t-61 isnt 8 psi on a t51R

From the look of this guy's sig it appears that he's still on stock heads....Those stock heads are gonna choke the hell out of his 408 even if he does go turbo.
My vote goes to heads if you don't already have a ported set.

But like i said, for a low boost application, i would suggest a ATI d-1 or even a F-1 kit. Less modification and you can keep your headers.
However, if he is running stock heads, those stock heads are gonna choke that motor up so that should be the first mod beofer anything FI....

The Heads are stock. If I put them on the 408 I plan on having some work done on them locally. I have a porter here in Midland that I have always used in the past and I have always had very good results from him. He wants me to go with the AFR heads. But I have not spoken to him about the FI question yet. He will probley sujest getting a FI kit and wait to put it all together after the 408 is complete with AFR Heads. But this is the thing. I want this to be a daily driver. I do not want to run faster then an 11.5. I am only shooting to make about 450 to 500 make hp. I just do not want to do the permanant mods to the car like switch to a 400 turbo or cut anything on the car. I just do not want to make a radical car. 11.5 might be to much to expect. As long as it pulls at least a 12 flat to 11.5 at my local track then I will be way too pleased. I just don't see doing it on the motor alone and still being very streetable. I feel like with FI of some type would get me there without sacrificing streetability. Also I think the FI would make for a very fun street car. Also, I hope to put the 3.23 back in the rear end. I see alot of LS1's running around here that turn 11's on the motor so I am hoping to copy thier quarter mile ET's but use with FI still be very streetable.
Please tell me if I am looking for too much from this type of set up. I am leaning hard to the turbo with my factory heads being ported a little.
Tell me what you think.
