Default powder coating at home?

Harbor freight has a powder coating machine on sale for $60.00.
I was wondering can this be done by someone with no experience
or should this be left to the profesionals.

you also have to buy the oven for it, unless you want to use the one in your house and buy your wife a new one (also puts off a horible stench...............with that said a dishwasher also works well as a parts cleaner..........again you will be buying the wife a new one (i did both of these when i lived in an apt)

Eastwood has kits and videos.

They say you need a whole set of household appliances in the garage -- oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer ... not sure about a microwave.

dont forget the fridge, and the microwave comes in handy to heat those hotpockets and leftover pizza

I had some intercooler piping on one of my old Mustangs powdercoated by a guy who did it in his garage. It came out looking really nice. I've heard that you need a dedicated oven for it though, as these other guys have mentioned.

Well I can vouch for the Harbor Freight unit have used one a few times and it works great. Cured my items with a infered light setup. Slow going but parts came out great. Yes can use a old elect. oven but I dont have the room for storage or elect. Lights work fine. FYI need to have a 15-20 psi supply as well. Just did a new set of Lower control arms and panhard bar total time from spray to finish was around 2 hrs.

I have an old electric range that I converted by removing the top burners.....the previous owner must have never used the oven.....it was like new. It is big enough to do wheels. The infra-red setups can be pricey, start out under $100 on up to several hundred. I've done alot of coating with my Eastwood setup.

i have researched this too. you definaly need your own oven in the garage, as well as an air compressor of some sort. you need lots of different solvants and such to prep the metal, id suggest a parts cleaner however. im not sure where someone heard you would need a dishwaser? not sure if the washer and dryer comment was a joke or if you were serious, but thats not needed either. i havent personally done this, because i lack the oven, our old one was gas and im not about to waste money getting gas lines run to the garage. hopefully this summer i can pickup a used one somewhere so that i can try this.
