Default How fast do you have to run before you have to have dash bar?

When do you have to have the dash bar (the one that runs under the dash from driver side to passenger side).

thanks, Brandon

I have a full 10pt cage without the dash bar and I'm cert'd to 7.50. I think the dash bar is optional. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The rules state that you need the dash bar if the floor and firewall has been cut more than 24 square inches. Now I install a dash bar in all the cages I build just for strength.

How do you get a 10pt cert to 7.50, I thought a 10 point was good till 8.50 and below that you had to have a 25.5 cert cage?

Harlans car is a 10 point, and its cert till 7.50 because he got it certified before the rule went into effect.

All you need for a 7.50 and slower is the funny car cage, correct?

Louis the new cert is 25.5 for full frame cars. This will get you a sticker to 7.50. You need X bars in both doors. Funny car cage , rocker bars and x bars under your seat. The easiest way to explain is to buy the SFi book.

I don't think that is the case-I think your cage is only good to 8.50 this year-even though your sticker says 7.50. Pretty sure Madman is right here-25.5 cert. required past 8.50.

according to my chassis inspector the sticker on the car is good till it expires. Then you will be subject to the SFi certifications.

My pink receipt that the NHRA inspector gave me says 7.50 on it.

I had heard that cert. to 7.50 cages from last year would only be good to 8.50 this year b/c of the rule changes. The tech guys at the track around here prob. wouldn't know the difference anyways

I've also been told that whatever cert. you have is good until it expires. Then it's subject to the newer rules.

A little off topic, but the new Z06 has a dash bar. Does the stock unit meet the cert specs, or does a new one still have to be installed/connected to the cage?

MADMAN, where can you get the SFI book from? and could you PM me a price on your 10pt cage with dash bar and rocker bars. i want be legal to ATLEAST 8.50s but safer is always better. i would probably go ahead and bring it to your shop for the install so it could get cert'ed there. thanks for any info.

They may be grandfathered in but remember with a cage that was stickered last year to 7.50(if not 25.5), you cannot legally exceed 180mph even if you are above 7.50. IF you exceed 180mph between 7.50 and 8.49 then you must be 25.5.

You can purchase the SFI spec directly from SFI. Do a search on google for SFI Foundation. The Specs are $35.00 for the 25.5.
