Default AFR 225 Intake Flow - Independant test

I flowed a set of AFR 225 Heads on the intake side after I cut them 0.018". Here are the results as flowed on a 4.00" bore:

0.200 - 154
0.300 - 225
0.400 - 271
0.500 - 306
0.600 - 322

The heads fell of hard after 0.600 but I would rather have the mid range number than the peak.

Wow, those are good numbers. I'd like to see more on a 3.900 bore myself, but this is good info showing that they really can flow a lot of air. The .400 lift numbers are almost as high as some heads are at .600. Are you going to flow the exhaust side? Thanks!

Those are crazy flow numbers. No wonder your new motors are making 'da power!

Great job.

Here's what we have seen on the AFR 225's with a 72cc chamber and 3.900" bore. These also spec'd out to have a 232cc intake runner untouched and 84cc exhaust runner. No intake and no pipe.

Intake:

.100" lift 68cfm
.150" lift 107cfm
.200" lift 151cfm
.250" lift 193cfm
.300" lift 226cfm
.350" lift 250cfm
.400" lift 272cfm
.450" lift 295cfm
.500" lift 299cfm
.550" lift 309cfm
.600" lift 315cfm

Fell off at .650" lift and beyond as Mikey stated.

Exhaust

.100" lift 46cfm
.150" lift 84cfm
.200" lift 115cfm
.250" lift 145cfm
.300" lift 176cfm
.350" lift 197cfm
.400" lift 209cfm
.450" lift 219cfm
.500" lift 225cfm
.550" lift 228cfm
.600" lift 231cfm
.650" lift 233cfm
.700" lift 234cfm
.750" lift 235cfm

Hope this helps.

I was just thinking, do you guys see the ability to improve these with some hand finishing? I mean, they are just CNC machined, correct? Surely they can flow even more with hand finishing. Just wanting your opinions.

P.S. 500th post! But really, I want to know about that, I didn't post just to get to 500.

Absolutely. I may fool around with the next set but you would sacrifice some mid range flow for higher lift with increase port volume. But there are some applications that would kill for that.

I would definately like to see some hand finished AFR 225's. I thought hand finishing added midrange as well? I am looking for a setup with great under the curve power without going to a stroker (BIG $$$) so these AFR heads are looking good right now. But it will probably be a year or more before I can afford them since I still have to get full exhaust, HPtuners and wideband, rearend, etc. before cam/heads. That should give all the head porters plenty of time to mess with the AFR's. Thanks for all the info.

If they spec'd out at 235cc why didn't they call them "AFR 235" instead of AFR 225.

Kumar.....Don't tell me YOUR starting to "believe" !

More 225 results should be coming soon....I think we will continue to see barriers broken and new levels achieved.

Thanks Guys...
