Generation III External Engine - new exhaust, pics!

looks like you just have to move the pipes to the right a little bit and then your good :)

the left pipe doesn't seem like it's in all the way though, i have tried SO hard to get that thing in! the right side hangs PERFECTLY, but the left side hangs a little crooked. the muffler also slants down a little bit, but it is all VERY solid. should i have a shop look at this, or just pound the left tube in with a rubber mallet till it gives?

You said new exhaust system; if an exhast shop installed this, they shoud fix it and make it right.

i got it used, i set it up..

a shop tried telling me it would be 200 bucks to put on a cat back system clamping it..i was like uh i dont' think so.

Can you just shorten the pipe that leads to the muffler's input by an inch or two to move it over?

i guess i can try that, but i don't have a straight cutting sawzall or anything like that. isn't there a way to really get it in there? i mean i got all my pipes in there, i had troubles with the over axle pipe, but loaded that sucker with wd-40 and slide right in. which side looks betterly positioned, the left or right? the right side is clamped where it's supposed to be, and positioned where it's supposed to be IMHO, i think it's just a matter of getting the left pipe in more so it can hang straight. anyone have any thoughts on how to get it in?

Have you tried loosening all the connections and just practice fit them to get the right look on the tailpipes?

Bang the left pipe till it gives...maybe put some lube on the connections of that one and then bang it into place.

i was never able to get the left one on all the way in the first place, the over axle pipe and the right pipe were already attached to the muffler ;) i tried putting wd-40 over the left side, but it only goes to a certain point then it stops. the rubber mallet i have isn't in the greatest condition either ;)

Well, you can try and expand the muffler's input using a pipe exxpander available for free rental at autozone. You may be able to wiggle it in a little further. Also, you could notch an inch or two down the pipe leading into the mufflers input that will let the pipe compress just a hair and hopefully slide further in. Or you could just cut the pipe with a hack saw, ir an angle grinder, both of which can be found cheap at any bigbox hardware store. An angle grinder with a 4.5" x 3/32" metal cutoff wheel is an invaluable tool to have around.

What brand of Cat-back is it??

it's a 3" random tech cat back system.

The problem is the last guy that had the setup on his car tightened the clamp to the point that the connection from the muffler actually bent around the tailpipe. Look at it and see if it's a little deformed. If it is, a pipe expander from autozone should help out. Notching the tailpipe with a dremel as mentioned above might also work.

is it normal for the muffler to be straight but slanted a little bit? it's not perfectly flat like the stock one, and it's also a lot larger in size. since i haven't had the time, i'll just take it to a muffler shop after school on monday and see what they say.

Hey, a good way to fix it......
You should have a rubber hanger connecting the right tailpipe to the factory position. Get a large radiator hose clamp (the type that you can use a screwdriver or socket on to close/open it, avail at Autozone / O'Reillys), put it around the rubber hanger, and tighten it up. It'll compress the hanger, therefore pulling your muffler and tailpipe up and making them level with the rest.
