Default Appropriate/recommended tire size for 18X12..

For they guys running this wide a rim what tire size are you going with? I've seen anywhere from a 305 to 345. I haven't seen a very large selection online so where are you buying your tires from? I want to keep tire diameter close to stk 17" wheels in mind so that it doesn't affect the speedo as much.

Thanks!

Hey dude, the ideal size would be 35 sidewall and between 315 and 335 width. How soon do you think you're gonna have those wheels?

Jack. I think the 335 would be too much and have to the do the BFH mod. From what I've been reading from vette guys and others it's seems 315/30 or 305/35 is the way to go.

How soon you ask? Hmm it might be sooner than I think. JC picks up the LG's tomorrow and I head back to the US in June for a quick visit. I say by the time I return from my 21 day visit they'll be at the PO waiting for pickup.

I don't think so. If guys with 9.5s put 315s on, I think you'd be ok putting a 335 on a 12. If there was a 325, THAT would be perfect.

Sweet man. I can't wait to see pics!

Yeah but they have the bulge. I'm not looking for the bulge not mention it rubbing on the inside. I've talked to one guy who did no mods to his 18X12's w/ a 315 tire.

Oh you'll have pics. Tons of them!

With 12" rims I think you will have to do the BFH mod regardless. I think a 315 Eagle or BFG would be about good, but if you got Nittos then you would probably need a 335 (if they even make 335/35R18)

I've got 335/30/18. A 35 series is gonna throw the speedo off more than a 30 series.

BTW: 335's should fit fine on a 12 inch rim they fit great on my 10.5 inch rims with hardly a buldge at all. I just need to get some spacers and longer studs to solve a small rubbing issue.

35 series 117.25...30 series 100.5...stock is 110mm sidewall on a 275/40...so actually a 30 series will throw the speedo off more...

BTW: 335's should fit fine on a 12 inch rim they fit great on my 10.5 inch rims with hardly a buldge at all.
i'm having a hard time believing that...that's like saying a 315 fits perfect on a 9.5" wheel with hardly any bulge...what kind of car are you putting this on...you won't fit anything bigger than a 315 w/11" wheel on a camaro without it sticking out quite a bit...even then you will need to roll the fenders or do the bfh mod...possibly even both...if you want wide tires you are going to have to do stuff to get them to fit...there's no way around it...a firebird will hold a slightly bigger wheel but you will still have to do similar modifications...perfect tire size for a 12" rim is a 335-345...315 for an 11" 295-305 for a 10.5" 275-285 for a 9-9.5" here's a link to pics of a corvette with 345/30/18 bfg drag's https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ght=18X12+.jpg
another link for 345/30/19 on a corvette...https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...+corvette+.jpg
as you can tell these fit PERFECTLY...i wouldn't put any smaller of a tire on an 18X12 than a 335 it would look funny...
here is a pic of a 315 bfg drag radial on a 17X10.5 wheel...you can see the bulge if you look close...i can only imagine it would get bigger with a 335...

I never said he wouldn't have to modify some to get them to fit, he was asking weather 335's were too big for a 12 inch wide rim. Having to modify for wider tires is a given on our cars. If I wanted 275's or 285's I wouldn't have got 10.5's in the first place.

Hears a pic when I was first fitting them on the car

I run 285's on my 11's all 4 corners and it only looks slightly narrower to a 315 tire. So you can get away w/ a smaller tire w/ said wheel ( not saying you can't) just stating the obvious. It all depends on how it would look depending on the tire of course. I don't prefer bulge personally.

335's are 400 bucks a pop and haven't seen them cheaper on line anywhere. I want to go that route but $$ may dictate otherwise for the time being and just go w/ 315's.

Thanks for the pic!

Did you have to do anything special to fit your 11's on the front?

A 5/16 or 7/16 spacer and longer wheel studs from ARP, that's it. Doesn't rub anywhere except when I work on the car and the suspension drops. Turning the wheel catches the front GFX a smidge but nothing serious.

I've already got the spacers and studs on my car. I was hoping to run 315's all the way around for autocrossing. Do you think you could get away with that on your current setup, or do you feel it's too much? I've seen people with 315's all the way around, but don't know their mods.

315's will fit no problem. I just prefer 285's due to cost. EugenioSS runs 315's all 4. I think I got his name right.

fitting 315's up front will require quite a bit of work...the suspension in the front makes it difficult to run anything wider than a 295...and even that you need to be carful with...

I would go with the 335/30 tire.

I would like to see some pictures of cars with 12 inch rims on it. The elevens stick out already, how can 12s fit?
