Default How to change oil pump w/out dropping pan completey>?

I think I know the answer BUT...

Have intake, heads, headers, front cover, radiator, etc. off car...decided to get new oil pump and timing chain as well....

I am looking at the pump pick up tube, and can't see how I can remove the pick up tube from the pump withouth lowering the pan a lot...any suggestions? Hate to drop the front suspnsion....

It can be done just by loosening all the pan bolts. I don't remember exactly how many bolts there are but that's how most people do it.

Just loosen the oil pan bolts so the oil pan lays on the k member. And, use a 10mm wrench to get oil tube bolt off of the oil pump. Then the hard part is next putting that bolt back in the oil pump. I used the 10mm wrench to start the bolt back in the oil pump. It is hard as **** to get it back in there but you can get it.

Another thing you should do is stuff some rags behind the pump. That way if you do drop the bolt it doesnt fall down into the pan.
