If I have 2.73s then.... I have a 2 series carrier, correct?!
I have a 2800 stall would getting 3.73s be worth the cost? I have yet to see someone sell 3.73s for anything other then a 3 series
BTW, anyone know the facory code for 2.73s offhand?

Yes, you have a 2 series carrier if you have 2.73s. The code is GU2. Richmond sells gears for the 2 series carrier. If this is just a mild street car and you plan to keep the 10 bolt for ever you might as well step up to 3.73s, especailly if you plan to keep the stall at 2,800rpm.

Well, it depends what your trying to do with the car. If it's just a street car and you care more about seat of the pants feel go with the 3500/3.73 combo. However, if you like to go to the track and your looking to run as quick as you can, I would spend the money else where. If the converter has a 2.5+ str those 2.73s aren't really going to hold you back all that much. Also, what are your overal goals for the car in the future? If your goal is consistant 11.0 or quicker the rear is probrably going to break sooner or later. So, you have to ask yourself if it's worth throwing $500+ into a rear that will probrably be replaced anyway.

a 3.73 "thick" gear is what you need. the lower (numerically) the gear ratio is, the larger the pinion is, which means the ring gear has to be narrower to fit. the 3 series carrier only places the bolting point for the ring gear closer to the centerline of the pinion.

I have a tci ssf 3500 with a 2.5 str. i currently have 2.73's as well.
with my new setup im lookin at 11.0s or high 10s. i feel like the 2.73s may be holding me back at least 1-2 tenths (which could mean the difference between 11s and 10s). should i change to 3.73s?

2.73s were holding my 2002 ls1 camaro back very much my best motor pass with a lid and cutout and 4200 stall was like a 13.0 flat thats with the 2.73s.....my car shoulda been pulling way into the 12s with the stall IMO.
