My A4 Broke at the track today :(
Well, I finaly got to go to the track today with my new mods. The best I turned last year with only having 3.73 gears was a 13.88. Today with the mods I was turning 13.38. No NOX. The last pass when it went from second into third I heard a load pop, and the race was over with. It has no reverse but it will drive forward. I do not know what forward gears it will go in. I just shut it down and drove it up on the trailer.
What parts should I buy to make the trans hold up to the 408 I am building? Please list any and all recomendations and whom I can get the parts from.
Thanks guys.

I asked the same question to a lot of tranny shops. I'm working on a boosted 408 iron block motor. When I asked about a 4l60 that would hold up to the power of a FI 408, they all laughed at me. "You're joking, right?" was the general response I got from about a half dozen people. You need an A3 like me probably.

I do not want to loose the ovedrive or the lockup. I need the OD and lockup. So a A3 is out of the question. I do not plan on running that fast. Heck I am only running 13.38's right now. When I finish the 408 I do not plan on running faster then 11.5's with it. The main thing is I plan on braking 210 on a cross country rode corse out here. I don't think I can do it and run 11.5's without the lock up and the OD.

The stock f-bodys were running 14.5's today at our track. We have always got shitty air and are track is one of the worst in the country, not to mention the anouncer was begin people to get in the offroad humpdy left lain. Our air sucks and the track sucks. Just how it is here. People that run here and go to Dallas will gain .8 to 1 seconds in ET's. The fastest cars today was a 10 second rail. One guy has a 2002 Corvette with a 427 LS1 from a houston company, 3.73 gears, Magnum charger, and all he could cook out of it today was a 11.99. He turns 10's on Houston, Low 10,s. So we do have a hard time just running 12 and 13's here.

I personaly do not like going by that kind of time guess. Yes I feel like my car should have cut into a high 12 here but it doesn't, and I will only tell people what I know for a fact it does. I have never raced at a good track on a good day, so I can not quote those times.
I will tell you another thing I do that others don't do. I know it hurts my times but I want to know what the car will realy do when I am running around town. So I never shut the car off and let it cool down. I would rather make a pass in it hot like it would be driving around town then to cool it way down and make a pass. When I am at the dyno, the shop wants to wait till it cools down and they want to throw a bag of ice on the intake. Screw that, heck if I wanted to do stuff like that then I would just get someone elses dyno run and claim it as mine.
But thats my two cents worth.

This weekend when I broke the trans, I had three good passes, first 13.5-1.9 60' - 101mph, then 13.6-2.1 60'- 101mph, last 13.38-1.8 60' - 102 mph, then great 60' best run half track, and boom 2-3 shift smoked trans. Did not get the ticket on that one. Had to walk back to stands and get trailer. But the last one it did hook good off the line. I was running regular every day street tires that day. They VHT the track pretty good. and every pass hooked better it seemed. I need to get a set of M/T ET drag Radials in 17". A few guys had them out there. Two of em were running high 10's and low 11's. They seemed to realy do the trick.
