Default My 01SS with chrome 10 spokes are peeling...

Hello guys i have an 01ss and it has the chrome 10 spoke ss wheels on it, all of th4e chrome is starting to peel and rust, etc. is there anything that GM will do for me? car has 52.5k on it, and carfax says that corrosion is covered for like 80k or something, would this qualify as corrosion? is it worth a shot? any recalls?

Thanks
Louie

I bought a set of chrome 10 spokes for my 01 SS last christmas from SLP.
within seven months they were peeling, SLP will only warrenty the face of the wheel. Mine were peeling on the inside of the wheel and behind the center cap. Also the clear coat on the center cap peeled off about the same time.

And yes my wheels were very well cared for, the car was a pleasure car and has never been daily driven.

Is this typical of the SLP chrome 10 spoke wheels because I was gonna order some next week? Should I look for something else?

Did you drive with 'em on in the snow, or were they exposed to any salt? If either of those are true, that is why they are peeling. I made the mistake of driving in the snow with my old ones, because nobody ever warned me, and the same thing happened.

The same exact thing happened to me. My car was only driven on sunny days and never in the winter. I drove one cold night and there was a water main break and the township poured salt everywhere and I had no choice but to drive through it. It snowed the next day and I couldn't wash the car for a couple weeks. When I had a chance, the rims were trashed. They were already peeling on the inside but not enough for warranty. Luckily I'm still under warranty and SLP is now replacing them. You'll see the new set up for sale as I already got a new set of chrome ZR1's to replace them. They'll be for sale along with a almost new set of KDW's.

I've posted this before and I'll post it again: F*ck SLP. They won't do a damn thing for you. Anyone who ever had warranty work done through SLP probably waited over a year till it was taken care of just like me. My wheels have the same problem and SLP and the dealer haven't done a damn thing for me. I'll never buy another SLP product as long as I live. I hope they close down. There are plenty of F-body aftermarket companies selling better products at better prices with better customer service.

My dealer replaced my chrome snowflakes on my 02 about 5 months ago for the same reason. I brought them in a ziploc bag full of peeled off chrome from the inner lip and they were very helpfull. The car only had 22K on it so it was bumper to bumper warranty claim. They have sat in my garage ever since because I got different rims. Not sure what they do for SLP stuff.

You are SOL. The wheels aren't GM's they are SLP's.

My 10 spokes WERE replaced under warranty. They started peeling with only 140 miles on the car. I had to go to 4 different dealerships before I found one that was willing to work with me. All others said they would send them out to be rechromed. I was not willing to leave my car on blocks in the back of the lot while I waited for the rechromed ones to be returned. That being said, I was at the dealer when the new wheels came in and watched the whole procedure as the tech replaced the old set with the new ones. The new ones also started to peel at 400 miles. The has never been in rain or snow and actually rarley gets driven as I own 3 other toy cars. I quickly sold them and purchased aftermarket C5 wheels in chrome. I would stay away from the chrome 10 spoke wheels, maybe it was just a bad batch, but too many people have had problems with the chrome finish for SLP/GM to just brush it off as nothing.

Mine have started to peel on the outside. Two of my bow tie centercaps are completely bare now. Looks pretty stupid with two with bow ties and two bare.
