Rear View Mirror
Does anyone know how to take apart the interior rear view mirror on a 2002 car?
I know that it is possible to take apart the mirror that comes in the 1998+ by just separating the trim ring that is around the glass, but it seems to me that the mirror in my car is one molded piece. I cannot figure out if it is even possible to do this.... I am wanting to take it apart so that I can get to the wiring for the map lights.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Yep, I do. You are correct about how the trim ring comes off. It's a HUGE PITA to get off. I mean HUGE one! But......look at the pics below and you'll see where it's clipped in at and hopefully that will give you a little insight on where it's connected at so you can pry the hell out of it in the right spot.. Good luck!

Thanks for the pictures, BUT That does not look like my rear view mirror.... For example, my map light buttons are on the bottom side of the mirror....
I was wondering if anyone has taken apart the mirrors that come in the 2002 F-Body's.... (apparently they changed them up in 2001 or 2002)

98'MidnightBlueBird: How many did you get to fit in there? Got any pics??I just got done with my new one last night. Instead of 20, 6K mcd white LEDs, I now have 18, 26K mcds. 4x brighter and it DEFINITELY shows. Sweet ride.
SteelBallz: Can you get us a picture of your mirror? Maybe we can look at it and attempt to figure it out. Mine didn't look like it comes apart easily, but once I started it finally did.

Yep I have one right now. I will be the first to say that you are SOL if you want to mod that mirror. I have been looking at it for a week, and the only way that I can think of is to HEAT up the housing and pry the mirror out. They do the reverse to put it back in. If you are looking at doing the LED conversion shoot me an E-mail because I have the other mirrors available.
I personally like the way that the 1998 to 2000 mirrors look over the 2001 to 2002 mirrors.
Could you do me a favor? Can you lable what pins are what on your mirrors wireing harness? Thanks for the info.

I have one here that I will work on.
Do you just want to do the LED conversion to it, or is there something else you would like to do? I will do my best and keep you updated on what I can figure out with this.

Unless those clear lenses pop off or come out, it does look like you're SOL.
If WS6Extreme has one and can't figure it out. I'd just swap to an pre-2000 model one and let WS6 install the LEDs for you and sell the whole thing to you. Best option IMO. Wiring shouldn't be too much of a problem for yours. Just find the 3 wires you need from your existing harness and use them for the pre-2000 mirror.
So what do you have planned for your mirror anyways?? I'm curious!

I was just wanting to do the LED conversion...
It is appearing to be too much of a hassel, now I am not sure what I am going to do...

I was referring to the actual mirror itself. To do the conversion you need to gain access to the interior of the mirror. The little light covers are cake. The mirror itself is a nightmare.
I still honestly like the way that the 1998 to 2000 mirrors look over the 2001 to 2002 mirrors do. If I can do anything else for you to help please just let me know.
Did you by chance get the wiring identification for your three wires? Thanks for the info.

Those clear covers would be sweet since it'd allow more light to go through.
If you can find a way to mount the board inside the covers and can get to the prongs of where the stock light bulb is, it'd work. The prong's don't look easily accessible though. I'd find a cheap pre-01 mirror and use it. Way easier option and I, like WS6Extreme, think they look better..

WS6Extreme, I sent you a PM. If you havent sent my red LED's yet, hang on to them. I have the newer style RV Mirror and Ill probably need for you to install them on an older style mirror if you have one.
