The jury is still out on wether or not they can beat the gas guzzler tax.

Rumormill says 16/25, but at this point there's nothing official. As slt200mph pointed out, DH and crew have stated that they are trying to beat the gas guzzler tax, so it may end up better than that. Only time will tell...
Whats the "limit" for gas guzzler tax? Got got something in the mail from GM on the z06, new c6, and the GTO with the LS2. It rates it at 16/25.

The highway mileage has to be better than 23mpg on the highway for there to be no gas guzzler tax.

Well not to be a dick. But if you got the anywhere from 65k to 75k for a 500hp sport's car. i don't think I would worry about Gas Guzzler tax or mileage. :)

GM has a policy of no cars paying the GG tax

That can't be true because the GTO, when equipped with the automatic transmission requires payment of the gas guzzler tax. The EPA gives the GTO w/auto an average fuel economy of 16 city; 21 highway.

Like mentioned earlier, I think anyone who is able to afford one, most likely wouldnt worry about the gas guzzler tax. Hell, Id buy one cash, if my family wouldnt kill me for blowing a huge chunk of my inheritance!

ive read consistently that they indeed get 19/28 (same as fbods). Almost every magazine has stated that, and they have also stated that it has NO gas guzzler tax. it was a big deal for this car.

Sorry, but a 500hp 427 will not get the same mileage as a 350hp 346.

unless of course 6th gear has a 0.20 gear ratio. EPA doesn't mean a damn thing.

Yeah. I'm wondering too????? IT doesn't have DOD.

If I recall correctly, the LS7 was still scheduled to use DOD (displacement on demand) which disables alternating cylinders fuel until I assume a TPS threshold is passed. Damn would it be nice to only pay the gas bill of a 3.5L 4 cylinder vette, but have the performance of the 7.0L wne you stand on the pedal.
No DoD for the LS7. The DoD lifters weigh too much for the revs that the LS7 pulls. I'm pretty confident here as the guys who engineered the exhaust valve and DoD lifter are two cubicals away from me. I'm stuck working on Ford 3V valvetrain
Sorry bought that guys...... I was thinking about the early articles of the Ls7, when it Was scedualed to come out with the DOD.

I've seen screen shots of the the little digital readout for mileage on the guage cluster reading 29mpg. I've heard a rumor of someone getting somewhere around 31. motorweek got 24 highway out of it. good enough for me.

I'll tell you cares, guys with Vipers. Even if they are rich they hate that another 500hp car exists and gets twice as good gas mileage. 10mpg may not hurt a rich person's wallet, but their lazy ass has to fill up constantly still.

i'm sure those who thouroughly enjoy the car while driving it get an average of about 12mpg at best... like my t/a. im sure i can get somewhat decent gas mileage, but i get really bored easily when babying it around town, so i wind up with an average of 14/15mpg (50% city/50% highway).

Last time GM did DoD(that I recall) it was a disaster. They tried it on caddilacs. Then again when they first tried Aluminumn blocks on caddilacs they were so pourous that oil leaked through some blocks.
Beating the Gas guzzler tax is great, but seriously if I am shopping for a car in the 70-80k range, and its got to be a topend performer, I will not be basing my decision on fuel economy or gas guzzler taxes.

I think its a perfectly legit question. Not only does the fuel mileage serve as bragging rights for GM but it also shows the public that a manufacturer is capable of making a high end performance vehicle that actually beats the gas guzzle tax. Look at the ford GT or ANY ferrari/porsche for that matter. They don't even break past 15mpg on the highway.
This zo6 shows environmentalists that gm has done their homework and that we are on the right track with things like DOD on these V8s. Just because it didn't work in the 80s doesn't mean it won't work now, especially considering the technology we have, hell cars were still runnin carbs during then.
Like the others have said, if you don't give a damn then find another thread. To be honest I'd love to know how much mileage I'd get if I'm gonna take a roadtrip in a zo6, knowing how far I can go on a tank. Makes sense doesn't it?

I'm on board for the 'who gives a shit' train. If I'm looking to by a Z06, money isn't that big of a deal...at least not enough to worry about a couple bucks a gallon. Never heard of anyone actually buying one of these cars that could claim, "...and best of all, it gets XX mpg".
What are the chances someone who buys one of these cars is going drive is in a way that they could validate what the manufacturer's claim? :drive: Hell, I've owned my SS since '01 and still don't know (or care) :jest:

If nothing else it shows that gas mileage and displacement are not as closely related as most people think. And for all the people on the "who gives a shit" train, i'm sure if you actually owned a new z06 you'd be happy it gets 18/28 even if that wasn't a factor in buying it.

It's the "who gives a shit" attitude that helps perpetuate the belief that big engines are inherently "bad," which then results in stupid laws like CA emissions that don't make sense with modern technology.
It's also ridiculous to assume that just because someone has bought a car like that, that they are "loaded with money" and don't have to worry about fuel costs. The only reason I could afford the engine in my car is due to a worker's comp settlement on a permanent disability to my knee........ doesn't mean I'm rich enough to ignore what kind of mileage I'm going to get, so I DEFINITELY care. I'm sure there are plenty of others that may have gotten or will find a way to get their dream car, but are still just a middle classed income afterwards that WILL have to worry about being able to afford to take that dream car on a Sunday cruise.
If you don't care, then who cares what YOU think? And why did you click on a thread that is obvously about something you don't care about. As we were all taught back in Kindergarten, "If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all."

Well said..on top of that if you keep track of your fuel mileage you know how efficient your engine is preforming..if your MPG changes it is time to take a look at you engine and find out what is wrong...just like reading your plugs...the engine will give you the answers if you monitor its behavior...that is why I keep track what kind of MPG I get..it is not about affording gas it is about monitoring my engines behavior...
