-have any of you guys every seen a gnx (Grand National) rear suspension set up?I think It may be almost a direct bolt in if for an F-body or at least make any 8.5" 10 Bolt bolt in, It uses a torque arm and panhard rod setup.I was looking aty them last night and I think it may be a much better way to go than to get stuck paying 2000+ for a 12 bolt. As the 8.5 inch 10 bolt is just as strong if not stronger than a 12 bolt.

It may be a good idea but there could be a few problems. One would be finding a rear. Those things are a pain to come by and people who have them want a fortune. Second, it would more than likely be the wrong width, requiring cutting down, new axles, etc. Third would be finding the GNX equipment to bolt up a torque arm. The GNX cars are hard to find, let alone misc. parts for them... Just some thoughts.

The one thing that isn't shown in the pic from Big Mike is how the torque arm bolts to the rear. It can be seen in this diagram:

Instead of bolting to the housing, it bolts up to one funky a$$ differential cover. That could be a problem to get ahold of......

Agreed on the problem of finding one - there were only ~500(?) made and that rear is exclusive to them. The GN/TType had the standard upper/lower control arm setup. Also, looks like the arm mount is comletely different and on the opposite side. Looks line in the long run it would be more expensive than a 12 bolt.

I researched this a little and I found there is a company that is making this suspension set currently howevr it would not be cost effective. <img src="images/icons/frown.gif" border="0">
Well it seemed like a good idea untill I saw the price of the kit <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

I agree, the Kirban unit while a GNX clone is as expensive as buying a 12 bolt, then you have to do all the mods to make it fit. The torque arm attaches to the differetial cover and wouldn't fit under F-bodys anyway. For a 8.5" rear they were incredibly strong, many low 10 second cars with no problems. Unlike our glass ass ends.
