Default Straight 100 octane kills power.. :(

Today I decided to run straight 100 octane and do some spray runs. Well I did a few motor passes first and noticed my car dropped almost 40rwhp. I was like WTF.. The dyno guy said that is normal if your car was tuned on pump gas. Which it was. Has anyone else experienced this?

You have to tune for race gas. Race gas actually burns slower than lower octane pump gas. Talk to Louis about what they have to do for the LG Speed GT car. He has mentioned to me on numerous occations that if you runs straight race gas you HAVE to tune for it. Otherwise, just cut it pump 50/50

Motors make the most HP on the peak of detonation. If your car is tuned for 93, then you just moved that curve further away by adding 100 octane. Thus reducing HP.

yup what those other boys said. gasoline is really just a way to quench or put out the hot flame at your level. if you are putting too much of the fire out, you loose that explosiion. consider this good vince since you dont have to run pure race gas. now turn up the timing and you will need that race gas all the time.

LOL!! I am not turning up the timing at my horsepower levels. I just have to find the right mix of race and pump gas for my spray application.

When you have sprayed the car on the dyno, do you change the timing or change over to race gas?

Don't think anything changed, just the gas.

Hey Vince, try different mixtures, do 3 gallons of race fuel and 93, 4, 5 gallons.. whatever until you're happy. Basically I'd tell you that unless you're going to tune specifically for race gas and then always run it, just add 3 galllons when you're really going to push it if it makes you feel better.

Guys I did no tuning changes. I just put in 14 gallons of 100 octane. Probably had a gallon of 93 left in the tank. I am going to try 50/50 next. I have no track times. I do not go to the track at all. I am just a test mule for FMS

Yup! Though, it does allow you to add more timing to it, but that's why the NASCAR Busch series would actually run something lower than 104 or 108 (whatever they run now from SUNOCO) because (the last time I had heard), they were only running about 9.6:1 comp. ratios.

Vince, cool car. Yea, I like the idea of 50/50 better than 100% 100. We run c125 in our Firebird because of the 16:1 c/r, but it would make more power on a little less octane and/or different fuels.
