It's happen a couple of times. My speedometer went crazy and peged out to 200. It then returned to normal. Last night I'm going home and the thermostat maxes out and the temp warning sounded. After a couple of seconds it returned to normal. Anyone have this happen?

Maybe you should drive more carefully :jest: Seriously, I have heard of some of the 04's having the guages go nuts, all it took to bring them back was to restart the engine. You should be able to get the dealer to replace your guage pod under warranty. (as long as you can get them to reproduce the problem) Hope you have a cool service writer.

I think there is actually a TSB on the cluster. They reprogram the cluster. You can actually check which program you have by holding set and mode at the same time, then turning on the key, the old version is 000.019.000 , the upgraded is 001.000.009

"MAYBE THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE NEEDLE GOING CRAZY"..Gauges are large, round and easy to read, if covering only the basics, like engine and road speed, fuel level and coolant temperature, leaving some important data to digital displays that have to be punched up on information screens. A nice visual touch is the color coordination of the gauge faces with the buyer's choice of exterior paint color. Misleading, however, is the 200-mph top speed promised by the speedometer, as the GTO is electronically limited to 155; the gauge face is a direct transplant from Australia, which uses metrics, and instead of redoing the gauge face, GM incorporated an electronic adjuster that changes the needle movement between metric and English, allowing the retention of the single set of metric-based numbers. However, we can appreciate that decisions like that do help keep costs and, therefore, prices down.

The fix is to let your engine check complete before you put the car in gear. The only two times its happen to me is when I've put the car in gear before letting it complete. Several others have reported the same and it even states so in the manual in your glovebox. :)
Here ya go. http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/ Do a search.

The correct question is "Who hasn't this happened to?"
It's a ground issue where the harness goes through the firewall. An easy fix and nothing is wrong with teh gauge cluster.

Have 2 GTO's and have had the problem with both. 1 more than the other. Have had the cluster replaced twice in one. The dealer finally said it needed some kind of download into the computer?? Not sure but so far it hasn't happened again.
