Default **URGENT** 02 head gasket on 00 LS1 with 853 castings

Will this be a problem? I have the car torn down and have two '02 gaskets here but only 1 '00 gasket.

853 head gaskets and 241 head gaskets are different the 853 head has a raised part
or hole on the bottom of the head better check into it further about the interchangability! I no ya have to weld in the opening and have the head resurfaced on the older heads if ya use the newer gaskets.

I have one of the older gaskets that I will swap for the newer MLS gasket. Part number is 12558810.

I put 'em on. A couple of sponsors said I could do it. I compared the gaskets and there were no significaly alignment issues. Thanks guys!

The difference is on the sealing rings..The later model gasket seals on the outside rim of the head instead of curving up around the cylinder. Some 853s have the notch on the deck surface that will leak and some don't....IF you have an old casting that has the ~1" x .25 x .100 deep notch betweeen 2 cylinders it WILL leak. Been there...

This is true, ported several sets of heads and the notch is where they leak at so why risk it for a set of $20 gaskets. Thats why I weld it up and do a light resurface so it is all smooth and shiney! Could work or couldn't So is it worth it to try or be on the safe side! or
