4:10's 10-bolt daily driver/street tires-yes another threa
I've read many threads about 4:10's in a stock rear-end. It seems like most problems relate to racing/sticky tires. My car does NOT see the strip and is daily driven on street tires. Mods in sig. I occasionally get on it but I don't beat on it. I'm 37 and my "daring" days are over.
With that said, I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has been running 4:10's in their stock rear on their daily drivers. Any problems? I'm convinced after reading here and the other 2 boards that 4:10's in the factory rear-end would be fine.

I run 4:10's and drive my car everyday with no problems at all. It is not a comfortable daily driver, though. If you don't intend to go to the track, I would not suggest 4:10's. If you want a comfortable driver with a little get up and go, look into either 3:42's or 3:37's.

had 4.10's for two years on a daily driver with the stock 10 bolt, with Nittos on, the rear hasn't broke yet but she's not sounding too good at highway speeds, everytime it hooks up I think I'm gonna break something with the cold weather in the winter they just spin away.

Chances of breakage are small when you stay on street tires and don't dump the clutch from high rpm.
4.10s will make 3rd gear pulls much more fun and make the car feel much more responsive in 3rd and 4th gear when puttering around town. The only drawback to 4.10s is if you do a lot of long highway driving and put headers on. Headers seem to create a resonance between 2000 - 2200 rpm. This would seem to get annoying if you cruise at 75 mph.
I think 3.90s would be ideal (but they're not offered in a stock rear end size) so I would suggest that 4.10s will work nicely in your situation.

I plan on sticking with a just a lid and catback and don't plan on any other performance mods. I still have stock clutch when/if it goes, I'd likely go Z06 clutch - not an on/off type.
I would love to have 4:10's installed and silent. I think that would be fine for my use of the car.

I had 4.10s in my M6 for about 12,000 miles no problem with street tires. You will be playing with fire however. If you decide to go ahead with it I would bet you could get 10K+ miles from it easily if you go easy with them. I have to say that 4.10s are the perfect gear to utilize the 6-speed. Instead of downshifting a gear or three, all you have to do is leave it in the gear you are and the rpm's are already up and ready to race. Even though your taking a chance and your time is probably limited, those gears were by far my favorite bolt-on I've ever done to an F-Body. However, traction will be an issue with street tires. You will basically have to leave from an idle and stab it for any chance of hooking up, but even leaving from 1,000 rpms and hitting it is very fast becasue the gears wind up so fast.
