I'm trying to figure out if my tranny gauge isnt wired up correctly. This weekend I installed my Autometer Pro Comp Ultra Lite gauges and my temperatures seem very low. I have a yank 3800 and with a B&M 24K cooler mounted "Dope" style. This cooler is mounted in-line after the stock cooler. After I start riding in the car the temp wont rise above 100 degrees until probably 10-20 minutes of driving then the gauge hovers at 125 degrees. (Which is only 2 clicks away from reading 100 degrees). I took the car out and romped on it for a bit then let the car idle in gear and it took about 5 minutes for the temperature to reach 150 degrees. The outside temperature was in the high 30's, but even today with it being warmer outside it's still doing the same thing. I'm confident that everything's wired up correctly. The temp sender is in the tranny test port (i used teflon tape) and the wires are attached using spade clip ends and run to the gauge. Should I wrap the wire around and hook directly to the sender and the sender post on the gauge? For gauge power I tapped into the yellow illumination wire behind the radio. Should I attach my sender wire a different way? let me know if I need to explain anything further. Thanks everyone for your help

mine runs under 150 when its 30-40 degrees outsde. now when its 70-80 out its at 175 - 180 cruising

ok well the temps around here today are probably in the high 60's and my gauge is showing about 135-145*. I cant believe how cool this thing is running. I never got it to idle much, but im sure it would go to 150 or a little higher in this weather

That sounds fine to me. I've never seen my temp above 150. A converter with a good cooler and tuning to keep the low fans on will result in lower trans temps than a stock car.

bullshit. i have a 3800 stall, b&m 24000 cooler dope style mounted, and the low fans stay on- w/ a 160 thermostat i see 180-185 coolant temps and i see 190* alot out of my trans via hptuners.

** UNLESS- hptuners is off in monotiring the trans temp and i should invest in an actual gauge. it would have to be off by alot though.

fwiw some cars have nice low trans temps and some cars (like mine) have higher ones. pisses me off a little bit...

GregWS6, you're temps sounds similar to what mine do (and you're not that far south of me) I haven't drove the car enough yet today to see how she'll do today..drive the car in some stop and go traffic where the converter isn't locking...that's where you'll generate the most heat. If you're doing mostly highway driving, the temps are going to stay lower.

i hit stop and go lights frequently, and even ride it in a lower gear to try to get the temps up (this weekend) and it'll barely budge

Hey i'm just reporting what my scans say.

Think about it, stock, only have the radiator cooler, coolant temps reaching 226* before fan activation and then no external cooler. vs fans, 160*, pan and 24k cooler, that should well offset the addational heat from the converter.

well, i was in some traffic today and it got up to 180. Traffic was from stoplights and 0-20 for some time. once i got back to the interstate (for a 5 mile run) the temp got back down to 150. It would have gone down further if I had driven longer. It's just weird how it was giving me hardly any readings, and it took some traffic for it to finally go up 50+ degrees. Thanks for your help guys

Doh! Anybody tried attaching a small fan to the cooler, would it even be worth the effort? I can feel a decent amount of air being pulled through it by the stock fans. Although in cold weather even mine shut off. fan on temp is 180.

actually thinking about this, but the problem is finding the correct fan. maybe from a street-bike radiator or something. almost more trouble than it is worth finding the fan, but if somebody has a good tip on a correctly sized fan that is cheap and accessable then i'm all for it! that derale cooler is TOO MUCH $!!

I think B&M actually has the stand alone fans on their site with the thermostat that goes inline with the trans fluid so it kicks on at like 160*. I keep my fans on high all the time though and I still get high temps.

225$ for that b&m cooler w/ fan . i just can't swing that when another cooler is only 50$ and it'll take me 1-2 hours to do a NICE job finding a place and mounting it there. good advice just waay too much $ for what you are getting imho.

i did not see the fan available by itself. if you find that post up a link. although i think you need to buy the fan/cooler together.

I was mistaken bro, sorry. On Jeg's they sell stand alone fans in different sizes but you would have to wire up a switch to run it. I guess the easiest way would be to run another cooler inline. Let me know what you find out man.

I'd take a second look at how your cooler is mounted before buying fans and adding to your electrical load. Dope style normal works well but try a normal mount and see how it goes.
