Default 8 point cage question

Does anyone have a pic of an 8 point cage in an fbody? not an 8 point roll bar but a cage? I was ordering one from alston, and he said it would not require cutting of the dash...but he said that the bars run along the pillars...so how does it not require cutting up of the front dash? anyone? was he wrong or am i just not picturing this right?

Here's an example of going in front of the dash. This is a custom chromoly cage locally fabbed.

ah thanks next and spaceghost. I couldnt visualise that without seeing it in a car. that looks really not friendly if you plan on getting in/out often.

don't forget you can always make the door bars swing outs for easier entry and exit

That's nothing. Wait till you have to X the door bars for the chassis certification.

I suggest going through the dash, it makes the cage look cleaner, and makes getting in and out easier, I have a wolfe 10pt and cutting the dash is not a big deal at all

i was absolutely going to go through the dash but the alston guy told me it does not require cutting up of the dash...so i assume they sell both and he assumed i wanted the infront of the dash...meh whatever, matters not to me.

and keith, for the love of allah, put your car back to some kind of street monster so we can go cruising again. haha im so serious. some harlem action vs some ta's, this time we wont lose

Zach,

Good choice about going through the dash. I really didn't have a choice due to the timing of my install. If I could do it over again, I'd go through the dash just for the way it looks.

thanks for all the input and pics guys. i apprecaite it!

next, yeah my car is basically a shell right now, not one interior piece in the car, ok i lied, the e-brake handle is in there haha but thats it. so i dont care how mangled the cage has to be since i have all the room i need. thanks again!

Are you sure it is a 8 point cage? because to run faster than 9.99 you need a 10 point cage

The chassis shop that built mine calls it an 8 point cage. I guess the real difference is when you say cage or rollbar.

when i visited alston with some buds a few months ago(they are like 1/2 hour north of me) Mike there kept referring to cage as an 8 point not a 10 point. i think eric is right, makes a diff if you are talking about a rollbar or cage. i call mine an 8 point rollbar.

haha no **** keith.

regarding the cage vs roll bar. there are 8pt versions of both. a cage is what wraps around over head then down front, roll bars dont....see this link....

Then that makes sense, they count where the bars that go down the a-pillar and where the door bars connect as 1 point, where most places count that spot as 2 points.

The only thing I dont see on that cage is the rocker bar that runs along the floor on the drivers side
