You need tubs when you shorten your rearend and you want your wheels to sit under the car and you have height adjustable coil overs in the rear with a ladder bar suspension. everyone knows that you want the rear of the car to sit lower than the front. if you want to argue that, we can. so with tubs the car can not have its *** 5' in the air.
thanks chris!
thanks chris!

i dont think that you need to do all of the cutting to your car.....definately dont need to add ladderbars....many many people have gone very fast on stock style suspension...with 28's on their car...
i think you should talk to jay billingsley before you start your project of chopping your car for tubs and ladderbars....

Zach has two choices..
1) Either blow off the tires on launch ...
2) Run a big enough tire, actually hook the car, and run some #'s...

Zach should be taking a trip to W2W to check out a few of the rides in there, maybe pick some brains. I agree you can run in the 8's and 7s w/o tubs. But it might be easier to accomplish using a better suspension like a ladder setup. I'll go with the Fireball Wheel-well mod myself.

A few of the Mutang NMRA Outlaw guys have actually gone 7.50's on a true 28X10x15 Micky slick. We have had a stock suspension mustang run 7.70s on a true 28x10x15 slick. Most of the Mustang racing is done on the 28x10x15 slick(except the Pro or FFW Outlaw). The MT Slick is very good, i know of several cars that have run 1.19 60fts on the 28.

what choo tryin to say esse. DONT CHOO KNOW IM LOCO!
yeah my car is a bit of a learning experience for me, hackin it up and what not. so far so good right keith? hahaha. car should be DEEP into the 13's this season. with this chassis and power i will be making, theres no way i cant hit somewhere in the 12's, hopefully a 12.7 or something
so im thinking...stock tires and rims, cause thoes wont look gay under the car.
seriously though keith, your rearend is shortened isnt it? were you able to run 29's with a **** load of cutting and hammering? because im sure thats all i will need with my suspension setup but how wide is the slick youre running?

yeah but i expect to be cutting 0.97 6-'s dan. so this doesnt apply to the situation.
haha im kidding. ok yeah i know all of this, however i honestly didnt think there was enough room when the tire was UNDER the car, as in when i shorten the rearend, for the tire to clear everything. this is why im asking about the tubs and if anyone had to run them. i very well know the logistics of what tire i will need to run with my setup. i was just wondering as to the clearance issues and if tubs were needed.

It of course depends on what backspace wheels you run with that narrowed rear-end as well. If positioned exactly correct in the wheelwell, there's enough room for a 10.5W tire width-wise, I did it in my car and no tubbing, and no fender rolling either. I guess the Strange 12 bolts are like 1/4" narrower than other rear's out there, and man my 28x10.5W's couldn't fit any better in there. With that being said, many people have mini-tubbed to get a little more room, or to have a 29/30" tire and not have the *** end way in the air. Wheel-well width is mostly limited by the factory frame-rails and suspension mounts anways, height seems to be really what you need to mini-tub for.

Zach,
There have been some really good suggestions on here. You are pretty close to Jay Billingsley, like Camn Hawk said...............you should take a trip over to him and see what he has to offer for knowledge. Or you can run Wolfe Racecraft suspension on your car..................like we do on mine. The Wolfe stuff has always worked good for us and our cars. Tom K's (fastr-thanu) car has Wolfe suspension on it also.
Dave,
Here are a few photo's of our car completed.

Speedracerz, also some pic's for you!

I'm actually working on a mini tub kit. Hoping to having all the patterns complete in the next few weeks. I'm actually done building the Passenger side, just need to complete the Drivers side. It will be large enough to fit 315/60/15 drag radial on a 12" wheel, which is the same size as a 29.5/10.5/15 W tire on a 12" wheel.
I should have pictures of the passenger side on our website in the next week.
To take full advantage the rearend will need to be narrow as well as other possible modifications to some of the suspension mounts.

thanks for the pics chris. im sure with the ladder bars i wont need a huge *** tire, im just not sure what you can run after shortening the rearend. hence the post. and since im not aiming for 7's like you, im sure i wont need huge *** manly tubs hahaha. alston is also clost to me which is why i went with the chassis work, however after finding out wolfe makes the through the floor subframe connectors, i wish i would have found them before going though the pain in the *** of doing it myself with steel from a local mill. haha
thanks for all the input guys!
