Default Does 4.10 gear change your gas mileage?

Hey all, I was just wondering this since the next thing I will be saving up for is a 12bolt. How does the gearing change your gas mileage? My TA is a daily commuter and Im in a lot of bumper to bumper here in LA so I dont want to do anything that will kill my mileage. Is that affected at all?

I still get 28 on th highway. It will depend on your driving style. Heavy foot and it will go down a lot. Normal driving and it will not be noticed at all.

Someone else told methat mileage improves when going to this gear, but I guess Im not understanding the mechanics behind how that is possible

maybe because its more effecient for the engine, or it takes less work to accelerate the car

I have read that it only drops by one mpg. Nothing big. I think when I done mine it stayed about the same.

I think it mostly depends on the kind of driving you do. I usually drive around 40-45 and before I would be in 4th but now I'm in 5th so it gets decent mileage.

It will depend on your driving. Going to the deeper gear will make it eaiser for your car to accelerate (not requiring as much fuel/power to get to speed), but your highway rpms will go up requiring as much gas. My guess is you will lose a little on the interstates especially if you drive 80mph, but you will gain a little in stop and go traffic.

I drive alot of bumper to bumper traffic daily with my 4.10s, and milage has not changed much. When cruising at 70 im always in 6th gear as opposed to 5th wiwth the 3.42s. The only place that milage really suffers is on long trips at 80 or so where i used to use 6th gear with the stock 3.42s anyway. Whats a dollar per tank compared to the performance gain!??!

Between Springfield, MO and St. Louis I averaged 22.5 mpg. We were cruising at 85, with a few excursions higher. There were also some significant hills on the way (Ozarks, and foothills). I imagine on level interstate at 70-75 I could probably get about 25 mpg.

the gear increase will allow you to skip gears and if you keep the rpm's down
should not affect mpg all that much. well, if you can keep your foot out of it anyway!

Your mpg will go up all around the charts unless you keep your foot into it. If you have a lead foot, your mileage will go down. When your normally driving, you're shifting at close to the same rpm, but you're going faster then you normally would, meaning leass gas to get you to speed. If you're foot is always to the floor, you're gonna use more because you're turrning more R's to get you to top speed.

My city mileage improved 1 mpg to 2 mpg depending on how I drive it but dropped about 1 mpg on the highway. So it has stayed about the same overall. I've only checked it once or twice though as its just too much fun with the 4.10's not to stomp on it occasionally.

I can cruise 80mph at about 2200 rpm in 6th. I have no regrets about my 410's at all. Wish I had done it sooner.

Same here, although...it wasn't really that I wish I had done it sooner as much as I wish I would have had the money to do it sooner...

I checked out what the rpm difference was between 4.10's and 3.42's. There was only 400 rpm between the two. My brother has the same set up except for he still had the factory gears. Also I have noticed hardly any difference in mpg either.

I skip gears all the time. I go from 2nd to 4th, sometimes 1st to 3rd. It all depends. Sometimes I just want to jump off the green light, but by the time I'm shifting gears I'm already at the posted speed limit, so I'll go from 1st hard, then ease it into 3rd oe 4th.

I'm planning on getting 4.10 in a few weeks too. I imagine that I will get better mpg because I do a lot of 60-70mph driving, and I can't ever really use 6th because it's just too low. So with 4.10 I should be able to use 6th more, and thus less rpms and better mpg.
