Default Trans temp fitting on 4L60E?

Is there a temperature sender fitting on the case of the 4L60E somewhere, or am I going to have to tap into one of the cooler lines to read the temp?

I believe their is a fitting on the case but you won't get accurate readings. I used a autometer temperature temperature manifold from jegs.Inline w/cooler lines.

Do you recall the Jegs part #? I need to install a trans temp sensor when I install a B&M cooler. I guess in the lines somewhere. Where is the best place to install a temp sensor to get an accurate reading?
Thanks

I have mine installed in a pressure port (A4) on the side of the transmission, and it is dead on accurate when compaired to the auto-tap reading. The sensor size to my gauge is 1/8 NPT

What does the pressure port look like....any chance you have a pic? I'd love to not have to cut my lines if I don't have to.

Look for your transmission linkage, and go half way up the casing, you will find a threaded plug in the casing, that would be it, it is very easy to remove.

I ordered my stuff from Summit. Autometer gauge/sender pn ATM-2640, manifold pn ATM-2286. If the pressure port thing works out I'm sending the manifold back.

Thanks for the help, I'm gonna work on it tomorrow.

Without any doubt the pressure port will work, and take the standard 1/8 NPT fitting without retaping. Even though it is "NPT" threaded, you should use a small amount of thread tape around the sensor threads. Home Depot sells a special pipe thread tape to be used with hydraulic fluids, and it is inexpensive.

Send the manifold back.

i've got mine in the test port too....works great. the temp is probably slightly different then it is in the cooler lines or in the pan, but who's to say which one is "accurate".

you're not necessarily looking for the one that will read highest.

How did you guys get the sender in there?
I have a 2002 camaro that I was installing a test gauge to read pressures and could barely get my hands in there to remove the plug.

itll be easier to remove the shift linkage if i can remember correctly. that just pops off with a screwdriver when you take the plug out youll get some drips of fluid. dont worry though

I got it put in today, temps between 165 and 180, depending on freeway/city driving. Seems like a huge difference....is this what I should be expecting?

Great info/thread and thanks for the link to the install. So, do most mfg's use a 1/8" sender for their trans temp gauges or is this just Autometer? I like digital guages (Cyberdyne possibly) but not sure if the sensor will fit the pressure port you all are talking about.

Lastly, I was thinking about buying a dual or triple gauge A-pillar pod, however, the Summit catalog lists 1997-2002 (T-top). I do not have a T-top car. Will it work/fit a hard top car?

Thanks!!

i think you're looking at full pillars not pods. the full pillars would have to be specific to t-top or hard top because of the t-top locking hole in the top. a POD on the other hand should just fit over your stock a-pillar as long as the hardtop/t-top cars have the same shaped pillars (which they most likely do).

take another look and see if you can find just the pod. also i recommend a dual pod over the triple. i switched from a single to a dual and i couldnt believe how close to my head the upper gauge sat. i can't even imagine how high up/close a third one would be on top of it. might be a little annoying.
