how much do u think liability would be instead of full coverage for a 16 year old with a 98 z28?

Rates fluctuate with region. My insurance is $198 per month and I'm almost 27years old. Your rates are going to go through the roof!

Your parents are nuts for even letting you consider owning an LS1.

An LS1 car? At 16?!?!?! Bring some Blue Gel to the insurance agent when you go for the quote. You'll need it to ease the burning sensation after they bend you over and...well you get the idea.

I live just outside of Chicago. I'm in my mid-twenties, I'm married, I have a multi-car discount and a multi-line discount for multiple policies, and I've got full coverage. I have an excellent driving record. I pay about $85 a month with State Farm for my 2000 WS6.

i got my 98 z when i was 16.5....i had it insured under my dad, and it was like 900 and somethin per year...i was a very responsible driver, still havent ever had a street race to this day, and im 18 now, and have never been pulled over in my life in any car...its a big responsibility, but my dad trusted me, and i knew i couldnt f up at that age so i drove and still do drive like a grandma on the street except for the occasional burnout and going through the first 2 gears, but beyond that, im very civil in the car, but if u have your own policy, you are talkin at least 4k a year i would bet...especially if u have ever gotten a ticket or anything...good luck man.

ps...for all you guys that think just cause your 16 that you are gonna drive like a buffon, i think that isnt a very fair statement...generally true, but i think every case needs to be looked at at an individual basis...just because u drove like a *donkey* at that age doesnt mean everyone else will...

Worst drivers are almost always soccer moms in SUVs and old people. Insurance should be the most for them, IMO.

It all really depends on if its in your name or not. I got mine when I was 17 and full coverage in was $375 a month, liability was $225 a month. Every insurance is different and it also depends on your parents record.

I do have two speeding tickets from two years ago.
They were both too.

LS1 Brent, I don't mean to be an ass...but a LS1 powered vehicle isn't a very good choice for a 16 year old. Shoot, I almost killed myself in my '86 TA with a measly 305 in it. Talk about a turd.

16 years old + LS1 = scary!!
No offense, but these cars aren't for beginners

My first car was a 92" z28 and was $1800year at 16
then 87" 4x4 1500 truck $350year at 16
then a 92" buick century and was $627year at 18
then a 02" SS and was $1200year at 20
then a 02" Escalade was $1200year at 20

Amd yes i still have and drive most of these cars! the key is loop hole (primary drive, school and back, bank deposite,AAA home and car, and with my car I have a "fleet" so that is a discount.Oh and if they ask it is a leaser car!

I had over 18 issued point before I was 18,meaning just in lawers I spent over $5000. But they saved my ass then and even now. best to get a $50 beater and be primary driver on that but drive the LS1 around!

Just be CAREFUL!!! i got my 99 z28 M6 when i turned 17. I used to drive it around and do a lot of stupid shit. 3 speeding tickets later and an insane insurance bill, i have finally slowed down. Im lucky i didnt kill myself when i first got it. Ive put it up on a curb twice with minor damage. Just be safe and use your head. these cars WILL get away from you.

I had 13 points in the first 6 months I got my license. Three accidents too. I was a good driver really. I was always pre-occupied with friends or the stereo. I was just way too inexperienced.

The last thing society needs is another yound kid driving a beast. Being that you're a member of this site, you'd probably do all the free mods and some others as well. A 350rwhp car at 16 years old can get out of hand.

Let me say this though. I had a buddy in high school who had a low 12 second Formula and he hasn't had a ticket or an accident to this day.

You gotta pay to play. If you want an LS1, you are just gonna have to sack up and pay for the insurance. If the high cost of insurance is a deal breaker, you might just want to wait a couple of years.

Besides, do you really want to sink all of that money into a car, only cover it with liability, and have some underinsured bone head total your ride and leave you with nothing???

Im only a senior in high school But I drive VERY responsibly...I have a 2002 35th Anniversary SS,
that'll be pushing 500+RWHP with MTI's Head and Cam package and 100 shot(March 10th). I have all the bolt ons with Micket T's. I dont like to street race often, and I hate it when other people drive irresponsibly putting other lives on the line..I also own an H2

But, my very first car was an 1990 Eclipse with no Power Options and no air conditioner, and I didnt mind as long is it worked. Not all young adults drive irresponsibly bc I appreciate what I have and thats the way I was raised..

I'm also a senior in high school...will probably have enough money by graduation to do forged internals... I put the insurance under my dads name, and hes pretty old, so it comes out to 70 a month....

Hope the insurance company never wants to come check out the car...

I also have never been in a wreck with it....and no tickets on the record...one ticket with the car ever was an 85 in a 50, and that is off my record...

I got my 98 Z28 brand new my senior year of h.s. I was 18. Never had any problems that I caused..got hit a couple times not long after I got it by other people(what luck) Including losing the whole passenger side to an 18 wheeler side swiping me on the way home from college freshman year for thanksgiving break(no, i'm not kidding).

Just use your head is all I have to say. My first car was a 87 Supra Turbo 5 speed. Don't be dumb, and don't listen to others than want you to be.

I still have the car, and boy is it a bit diff now, its still in one piece, more than I can say for a few other dudes I knew in H.S that got brand new LT1's and stuff the year before I got my car. so just watch out.

and yes, until I got out of college, I had my stuff under my dad's name to keep it cheap. But now with my mult-car, good student discount(graduated with certian gpa), and no accident discount, its pretty good actually.

Yea, getting good grades does help a lot, B-honor roll lowers it about 100 bucks a year for me...

Instead of an LS1 why not get a LT1 or a 5.0 Mustang or something? Either would be a cool car and a lot cheaper. You also wouldn't have to worry about the door dings, spilled drinks, etc., that probably will happen with your high school friends riding in it.

dude you should really ask an insurance guy. im 18 in nj i was paying $6,500/yr in my name (my dad wont let me put it in his) but i took a $2,000 collision and $1,000 comprehensive deductible and now its down to a measly $4,500/yr (about $500/month) so my advice would be to
A. talk your dad into putting it in his name or
B. wait a few years till your like 20 something
dont get me wrong. if i had to do it all over again i would but its not fun bending over for the insurance companies.

And since you live close to me, I know for a fact that just because you live in Harris county, its gona be higher. Reason being is because that Houston is Harris county and that means it a whole lot more cars on the street to deal with on a daily basis than if you were livin in a county like Waller or something like that right out side of Houston it would make it that much cheaper because thats out in the country and its fewer cars out there. Im not trying to discourage you from getting the car because of insurance, but when you get quotes for your insurance look for all the loop holes you possibly can, and go ahead and take the alcohol awareness class in drivers ed, and take defensive driving before hand. I took all that but the defensive driving before hand (but HAD to take it over the summer ) and just the drivers ed and alcohol class lowered it 15%
