Default Cutout First Impression

Well, I broke down and bought a manual cutout which was installed today. Man is it a big difference in sound. It is loud and mean sounding. There is some drone around 1500 RPM, haven't decided if it is too much yet. Overall, I like it. It is definitely a grin-inducing mod. The SLP Dual/Dual sounds good, but way too quiet. Now it screams and sounds like it has 500 horses.......I wish. Only obstacle left is my wife when she finds out I did this! I would recommend it to anyone.

I also just got mine in today. When i first bought my car, i just cut the exhaust off about a foot after the Y. It is really loud and i also love it. But i am having some exhaust work done and decided i wanted to be able to close it if need be. So i bought and recieved mine today. What i wanted to ask is whether yours looking inside of it, was a nice smooth cut, where the pipes connected and almost the size of the welds, or was it a rough ugly cut, about 1/4" smaller all around than the welds.

It wasn't real clean inside, but it wasn't horrible either. About what I'd expect from something that is mass produced like that.

I remember wayyyyy back when I put a cutout on, hell I thought it was pretty quiet at idle. All the other TD guys thought I was joking, even at WOT it wasnt too loud at all. I had it aimed at about 45* towards the outside of the car, rear section of I-pipe before axle. Then I took the manifolds and CATs out, when LTs and TDs, what a difference! Get your wife used to now, it'll be easier to mod away later!

I know I know, this isn't a major mod at all, but you all know how it is. We get bored and look for something new to do. This was a cheap excuse to do something, anything at the moment. I am saving for LT's and ORY, but that will be another month or so. As for the wife, this car is a slight point of contention between us. She tolerates my modding for the most part, but sometimes she just wants me to leave it alone for awhile. She's a great gal for putting up with me at all, but she's not too fond of my modding surprises. So Cahill93Z28, this is about as out of control as I can be at the moment. But some day I'll really go crazy and do some serious modding......after the car is paid for. By the way, anyone else exprience serious interior drone after installing a cutout? Any suggestions for alleviating some of the interior resonance?

LOTS of drone here with the cut-out, but I think it's pretty much a given. I always keep mine open, though my wife hates it. OH well. I remember when I first fired it up(I had a resonator in the I pipe before my flowmaster), it was ungodly loud and badass. I grinned from ear to ear. Now, it's too quiet for me. Hopefully, it changes when I get my G5X2 finished.

Oh it'll change once you're cammed...mine sounds badass when it's open now that I swapped cams. It lopes like crazy at idle and if I rev it's freakin' loud!
And as far as the wife thing goes...I just don't tell mine about the mods I buy...just pretend I'm out in the garage "tuning" the car up.

Anyone know how to reduce the drone at all? What about a turn-down after the cutout? Or maybe a bullet muffler before in the I-pipe? I absolutely love the sound and I don't want to change the way it sounds on the outside, just the inside. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ok...where did you buy your cut out from, what did you pay for it...and which direction did you face it when you installed it? I am looking to also install one in the near future.

Not to get too far off subject but when I open my cutout
it backfires when I am decelerating during racing. It sounds
just fine closed. Is this normal for a cutout or am I in
need of tuning?

I bought it at a local parts store for 75 bucks. I know they are cheaper in the magazines, but add in shipping and the wait time and I decided to go this route. It is installed in the I-pipe about a foot in front of the axle. The cutout faces out towards the rear passenger tire. It sounds badass....except the droning in the car. It isn't horrible, but enough that I would like to tone it down a bit. You got any ideas?

How would facing the cut out straight down toward the road affect the sound?

The FLP exhaust I just bought has provision for the cutout...can't wait to throw the exhaust on
